  • Tuesday’s forecast: steamy inland, humid along the shoreline

  • Friday and the weekend: still steamy, slight break coming
  • Tuesday’s regional breakdown

Heat and humidity are ramping up across Connecticut this week as a stubborn ridge of high pressure locks into place over the region. A heat advisory is in effect for parts of the state from Tuesday through Thursday, with heat index values expected to climb as high as 100°F (38°C) in some inland communities.

Tuesday’s forecast: steamy inland, humid along the shoreline

Tuesday, July 15, will start out with partly cloudy skies, but despite occasional cloud cover, the sun will heat things up quickly. Actual high temperatures will land in the low to mid 80s°F (28-30°C), but it will feel much warmer due to tropical humidity levels.

In many inland towns, heat index values will spike into the low to mid 90s°F (33-35°C). The Connecticut River valley, especially areas like Windsor and Hartford, will likely be among the hottest locations in the state, with real-feel temperatures approaching or even exceeding 95°F (35°C).

While the thick air might help spark an isolated thunderstorm or quick shower, most of the region will remain dry and oppressively humid.

Wednesday and Thursday: hotter and stormier

On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will climb even higher, with many inland locations seeing actual highs near 90°F (32°C). Along the shoreline, towns such as Stamford, New Haven, and New London will stay a few degrees cooler, but humidity will still push the heat index into the 90 to 95°F (32-35°C) range.

Both days will carry the chance for scattered thunderstorms, driven by the abundant tropical moisture in the air. These storms may be brief but intense, with heavy downpours developing suddenly and vanishing just as fast. If you’re heading outdoors, the unpredictable nature of these showers means conditions can shift quickly.

Friday and the weekend: still steamy, slight break coming

Friday continues the oppressive heat pattern, with temperatures soaring toward 90°F (32°C) and dew points remaining elevated, making for another uncomfortable day.

By the weekend, some modest relief is expected. Highs will settle back into the low to mid 80s°F (28-29°C) range, which may offer a slightly more manageable mix of heat and humidity—though still far from cool.

Tuesday’s regional breakdown

Shoreline (including Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London): Expect partly cloudy skies and high humidity with hazy sunshine breaking through. Highs will range from 80 to 85°F (27-29°C).

Inland (including Danbury, Waterbury, Greater Hartford, Windham): Partly cloudy with hazy sunshine, and a chance for a stray afternoon thunderstorm. Temperatures will reach between 82 and 88°F (28-31°C).

Litchfield Hills (including Torrington, Litchfield, Winchester): A mix of clouds and hazy sun throughout the day, with a slight risk of an isolated afternoon storm. Highs from 80 to 85°F (27-29°C).
