Severe weather threat ramps up across southeast Texas<\/strong><\/p>\n On Tuesday<\/strong>, much of southeast Texas<\/strong>, including the Houston metropolitan area<\/strong>, faces an elevated risk for severe thunderstorms<\/strong>, torrential rain<\/strong>, and localized flooding<\/strong>. The National Weather Service<\/strong> has issued a Flood Watch<\/strong> beginning at 7 a.m.<\/strong> for several counties north of Houston<\/strong> \u2014 including Grimes<\/strong>, Walker<\/strong>, Polk<\/strong>, San Jacinto<\/strong>, and Trinity<\/strong> \u2014 following recent heavy rain<\/strong> that has left the ground saturated.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Expected impacts by region<\/strong><\/p>\n The most intense rainfall<\/strong> is expected north of Houston<\/strong>, where up to 4 inches (101 mm)<\/strong> of rain is very likely<\/strong>, especially in the morning and early afternoon hours. Closer to the city<\/strong>, spotty totals of up to 3 inches (76 mm)<\/strong> may develop by late afternoon into the evening<\/strong>, particularly impacting the northern and western suburbs<\/strong> like Tomball<\/strong>, The Woodlands<\/strong>, and Cypress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Though Houston itself<\/strong> is not yet under any official advisory, brief but intense downpours<\/strong> may still occur, especially during the late commute hours<\/strong>. Some of these cells could bring small hail<\/strong> and gusty winds over 50 mph (80 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tuesday: FOX 26 Storm Alert Day<\/strong><\/p>\n Tuesday<\/strong> has been declared a FOX 26 Storm Alert Day<\/strong>, highlighting the increased risk of severe conditions<\/strong>. The cool and dry Monday<\/strong> will quickly give way to cloudy skies, breezy winds, and developing storms<\/strong> throughout Tuesday. High temperatures<\/strong> will hover near 80\u00b0F (27\u00b0C)<\/strong>, but cooler where rain falls early.<\/p>\n Some rain may linger into early Wednesday<\/strong>, though the bulk of the activity is expected to move east overnight.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hurricane season countdown begins<\/strong><\/p>\n As meteorologist Allison Gargaro<\/strong> noted, the countdown is on: Atlantic hurricane season<\/strong> officially begins on June 1<\/strong>.
