Fierce thunderstorms struck<\/strong> Palm Beach County<\/strong> during the afternoon of Monday, May 5, 2025<\/strong>, bringing winds up to 55 mph<\/strong>, hail the size of quarters and golf balls<\/strong>, and widespread storm damage<\/strong> across communities including Lake Worth<\/strong>, Boynton Beach<\/strong>, and Wellington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After experiencing the fifth-driest April on record<\/strong>, the region saw an abrupt reversal as heavy rainfall<\/strong> arrived with a stationary front stalled over Central Florida<\/strong>, triggering intense weather conditions.<\/p>\n At approximately 2:45 p.m.<\/strong>, Lake Worth<\/strong> residents witnessed an intense downburst. Julia Ray<\/strong>, a viewer for WPTV, captured an image of hailstones pelting the ground<\/strong>, a striking sign of the storm\u2019s force. The National Weather Service<\/strong> later confirmed wind gusts reaching 52 mph<\/strong> and quarter-sized hail<\/strong> in the vicinity of Lake Worth Road<\/strong>, where reports included uprooted trees<\/strong>, scattered palm fronds<\/strong>, and street-clogging debris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Village of Wellington<\/strong> also suffered notable damage.
