Temperatures are expected to plummet<\/strong>, posing a serious risk to sensitive plants<\/strong> and freshly planted crops.<\/p>\n From Bay City<\/strong> through Midland<\/strong>, Mt. Pleasant<\/strong>, and all areas northward, residents are under a Freeze Warning<\/strong> as temperatures are forecast to dip to 32\u00b0F (0\u00b0C) or slightly colder<\/strong>. Gardeners<\/strong> and farmers<\/strong> in these regions should brace for conditions capable of causing significant damage to unprotected plants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The southern half of Lower Michigan<\/strong> is under a Frost Advisory<\/strong>, excluding Wayne<\/strong> and Monroe Counties<\/strong>. Sunrise temperatures<\/strong> on Friday, May 9<\/strong>, are expected to hover between 32\u00b0F and 35\u00b0F (0\u00b0C to 1.7\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Despite the advisory level, some models suggest that parts of south-central Lower Michigan<\/strong>, including Flint<\/strong>, Lansing<\/strong>, Jackson<\/strong>, and Kalamazoo<\/strong>, may fall to around 30\u00b0F (-1.1\u00b0C)<\/strong>\u2014which would normally warrant a Freeze Warning<\/strong> instead of a Frost Advisory.<\/p>\n In areas from central<\/strong> to south-central Lower Michigan<\/strong>, temperatures may fall below freezing around 1 a.m. and stay below freezing until 8 a.m.<\/strong> That\u2019s seven hours of freezing air<\/strong>\u2014long enough to cause a hard freeze<\/strong>, which will destroy newly planted annuals<\/strong> and damage all but the most cold-hardy vegetables<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Tomatoes<\/strong>, peppers<\/strong>, and vining vegetables<\/strong> are especially vulnerable.
