A <strong>slight Level 2 risk<\/strong> stretches across parts of <strong>central and northwest Alabama<\/strong>, affecting cities like <strong>Montgomery<\/strong> and <strong>Auburn<\/strong>. Meanwhile, <strong>Florence<\/strong> and surrounding areas in the <strong>northwest corner<\/strong> have been downgraded to a <strong>marginal Level 1 risk<\/strong>. The <strong>southernmost counties<\/strong>, such as <strong>Troy<\/strong> and <strong>Greenville<\/strong>, also face a <strong>Level 1 threat<\/strong>, while <strong>extreme south Alabama<\/strong> remains <strong>outside the severe threat zone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Multiple tornado warnings and active watches Tuesday night<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As of <strong>late Tuesday night<\/strong>, severe storms were actively <strong>moving through east and central Alabama<\/strong>. Multiple <strong>tornado warnings<\/strong> were issued by the <strong>National Weather Service<\/strong> offices in <strong>Huntsville<\/strong> and <strong>Birmingham<\/strong>, especially affecting <strong>north Alabama<\/strong>, including <strong>Limestone<\/strong>, <strong>Madison<\/strong>, <strong>Colbert<\/strong>, <strong>Jackson<\/strong>, and <strong>Lawrence counties<\/strong>. Reports of <strong>storm damage<\/strong> have surfaced from these regions.<\/p>\n<p>Although the <strong>tornado watch<\/strong> for <strong>north Alabama<\/strong> expired by <strong>10:45 p.m.<\/strong>, <strong>central Alabama<\/strong> remained under an <strong>active tornado watch<\/strong> until <strong>1 a.m.<\/strong> Counties still under watch at that time included <strong>Bibb<\/strong>, <strong>Blount<\/strong>, <strong>Calhoun<\/strong>, <strong>Cherokee<\/strong>, <strong>Clay<\/strong>, <strong>Cleburne<\/strong>, <strong>Etowah<\/strong>, <strong>Greene<\/strong>, <strong>Hale<\/strong>, <strong>Jefferson<\/strong>, <strong>Pickens<\/strong>, <strong>Shelby<\/strong>, <strong>St. Clair<\/strong>, <strong>Sumter<\/strong>, <strong>Talladega<\/strong>, and <strong>Tuscaloosa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters continue to warn that <strong>winds could reach near hurricane strength<\/strong>, and <strong>a strong tornado<\/strong> remains possible. <strong>Heavy rainfall<\/strong> could also cause <strong>localized flash flooding<\/strong>, particularly in areas with already saturated ground.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Storms moving east and south into the overnight hours<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The line of storms is expected to <strong>push southward and eastward<\/strong>, affecting <strong>eastern Alabama<\/strong> into the <strong>early morning hours of Wednesday<\/strong>. As these storms advance, they are anticipated to <strong>gradually weaken<\/strong> in intensity. The <strong>front<\/strong> driving the system will eventually move through, leading to <strong>cooler temperatures<\/strong> beginning <strong>Wednesday morning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Weather radio outages during critical storm hours<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Complicating the situation, the <strong>National Weather Service in Birmingham<\/strong> is conducting a <strong>long-scheduled software upgrade<\/strong>, which will leave <strong>NOAA weather radios offline across central Alabama<\/strong> through <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>. Transmitters affected include several <strong>central Alabama broadcast points<\/strong>, though <strong>no other parts of the state<\/strong> are impacted.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are strongly encouraged to <strong>have backup alert systems<\/strong> such as <strong>weather apps<\/strong>, <strong>TV<\/strong>, <strong>radio<\/strong>, <strong>online services<\/strong>, or to stay connected with <strong>weather-aware friends or family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>No further severe threats expected after Wednesday morning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Once this <strong>overnight severe weather system exits<\/strong>, <strong>Alabama<\/strong> is expected to experience a <strong>break from dangerous storms<\/strong>, with <strong>no severe threats forecast for the remainder of the week<\/strong>.
