Sticky air and steamy skies on Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2014 After a brief and refreshing pause, the soupy humidity<\/strong> that defines late May in Southeast Texas<\/strong> has returned in full force this Thursday morning<\/strong>. The cold front<\/strong> that temporarily brought down dew points<\/strong> and gave residents a taste of drier air has reversed direction<\/strong>, returning as a warm front<\/strong> and bringing back the mugginess<\/strong> many had hoped was gone for longer.<\/p>\n The dew point values<\/strong> surged again overnight, causing dense and patchy fog<\/strong> in some areas. Although morning temperatures<\/strong> were slightly lower than Wednesday<\/strong>, the air felt oppressively moist<\/strong>, especially across Greater Houston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Afternoon highs<\/strong> are forecast to reach the lower to mid-90s\u00b0F (33\u201335\u00b0C)<\/strong>, under partly to mostly cloudy skies<\/strong>. With persistent onshore flow<\/strong>, scattered downpours<\/strong> could develop along the Texas 35 corridor<\/strong>, mostly tied to coastal sea breeze activity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hot and dry conditions return for Friday and Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n Heading into the start of the Memorial Day weekend<\/strong>, Friday<\/strong> and Saturday<\/strong> look to remain mostly dry and sunny<\/strong>, though hot and humid<\/strong>. Houston temperatures<\/strong> are expected to climb to around 95\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>, and heat index values<\/strong> may approach 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While afternoon showers<\/strong> are not expected to be widespread, a rogue coastal storm<\/strong> may still sneak through. With onshore winds<\/strong> continuing, humid conditions<\/strong> will persist across Southeast Texas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rain builds in late Sunday into Memorial Day<\/strong><\/p>\n A more significant weather shift<\/strong> arrives late Sunday<\/strong>, as a cold front<\/strong> pushes toward Southeast Texas<\/strong>. This will increase the potential for heavier showers and thunderstorms<\/strong>, particularly on Memorial Day Monday<\/strong>. Localized flooding<\/strong> becomes a concern from Sunday night through Monday<\/strong>, especially in areas north of Interstate 10<\/strong> and the Brazos River Valley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While it\u2019s too early to lock in exact rainfall amounts, models project<\/strong> that one to two inches (25\u201350 mm)<\/strong> of rainfall<\/strong> may accumulate by Tuesday<\/strong>, with some isolated areas<\/strong> seeing even higher totals.
