Since mid-November 2024<\/strong>, Syracuse, New York<\/strong>, has not experienced a single completely dry weekend<\/strong>, according to climate data from the New York State Weather Risk Communication Center<\/strong> at the University at Albany<\/strong>. That marks an unbroken streak of 26 weekends<\/strong>\u2014and counting\u2014during which some rain or snow has fallen on both Saturday and Sunday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This persistent pattern has left residents under a nearly constant blanket of clouds and moisture every weekend for over half a year<\/strong>. And as of Memorial Day weekend 2025<\/strong>, this upcoming Saturday and Sunday are expected to follow suit, bringing that total to 27 consecutive wet weekends<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Not just Syracuse<\/strong><\/p>\n The damp weekend streak isn’t isolated to Syracuse<\/strong>. Watertown<\/strong>, Albany<\/strong>, and Saranac Lake<\/strong> have reported similar weekend precipitation patterns. While Western New York<\/strong> and the Southern Tier<\/strong> managed to enjoy a dry weekend earlier in May<\/strong>, Central and Northern New York<\/strong> haven’t been so fortunate.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rain every weekend\u2014but not always a washout<\/strong><\/p>\n Though every weekend has had some measurable precipitation, not all felt like a washout. On Saturday, March 8<\/strong>, for instance, only 0.06 inches<\/strong> of precipitation fell, mostly before sunrise. Still, that trace was enough to continue the wet-weekend record.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Spring showers, not spring sunshine<\/strong><\/p>\n Since April 1<\/strong>, Syracuse has had 22 days<\/strong> with some rainfall, totaling nearly 9 inches<\/strong>\u2014roughly three months\u2019 worth of normal precipitation<\/strong> packed into less than two months<\/strong>. Cool temperatures have added to the dreariness, keeping spring from feeling like, well, spring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A glimpse of sun for Memorial Day<\/strong><\/p>\n There is hope for better weather<\/strong> on Monday<\/strong>, Memorial Day<\/strong>, when skies are expected to clear<\/strong> and temperatures will approach 70\u00b0F (21\u00b0C)<\/strong>. While not tropical, it should be pleasant enough for barbecues and outdoor gatherings<\/strong>.
