According to the National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong>, the region faces threats of severe thunderstorms<\/strong>, large hail<\/strong>, damaging winds<\/strong>, and even isolated tornadoes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Starting Monday afternoon<\/strong>, the chance for strong to severe storms<\/strong> will rise notably. The severe weather risk level<\/strong> is marked at 2 out of 5<\/strong> for portions of the I-35 corridor<\/strong>, the Hill Country<\/strong>, and the Edwards Plateau<\/strong>, shifting southward into the southern Edwards Plateau<\/strong> from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night<\/strong>.<\/p>\n During the day, there’s a 30% chance of showers<\/strong> between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.<\/strong>, with thunderstorm chances increasing after 4 p.m.<\/strong> Wind gusts could reach 25 mph<\/strong>, and the heat index<\/strong> might climb as high as 103\u00b0F (39.4\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Winds will be from the southeast at 10 to 15 mph<\/strong>, with gusts up to 20 mph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Storm activity won\u2019t stop after Memorial Day. The NWS<\/strong> is forecasting an active weather pattern<\/strong> with locally heavy rainfall<\/strong> and a continued flood risk<\/strong> throughout the South-Central Texas<\/strong> region. Rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches<\/strong> (25\u201375 mm) are expected through Thursday<\/strong>, with locally higher amounts possible<\/strong>. A Level 1 of 4 excessive rainfall risk<\/strong> remains in place daily from Monday through Thursday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While high temperatures<\/strong> may drop slightly, some areas in Southwest Texas<\/strong> could still push into triple digits<\/strong>, nearing or surpassing 100\u00b0F (37.8\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t expect a quick return to sunshine. Scattered rain chances<\/strong> are forecast to hover between 30% and 50%<\/strong> through the end of the week and into Sunday, June 1<\/strong>.
