Storms bring flooding, fallen trees and power outages across East Texas<\/strong><\/p>\n Monday, May 27, 2025 \u2014 Tyler, Texas<\/strong> \u2014 Severe Memorial Day storms<\/strong> rolled through East Texas<\/strong> early this morning, leaving behind a trail of destruction, flooding<\/strong>, and downed trees<\/strong> across several counties. Residents woke to the aftermath of violent weather that disrupted communities and marred the holiday with dangerous conditions<\/strong> and property damage.<\/p>\n In Longview<\/strong>, widespread flooding<\/strong> submerged roads and neighborhoods. Corey Evans Jr.<\/strong> captured striking images of streets transformed into rivers. In Kilgore<\/strong>, Kathy Murphy<\/strong> and John Silos<\/strong> documented similar scenes, with waterlogged streets and storm debris scattered across town. The accumulation of rainfall<\/strong> overwhelmed drainage systems, causing rapid rise in water levels and making travel nearly impossible in low-lying areas.<\/p>\n The Payne Springs Fire Rescue<\/strong> shared sobering images of damage in Henderson County<\/strong>, where trees were ripped from the ground and yards were inundated. Emergency crews responded quickly to block off affected areas and assist with cleanup, as residents began surveying the destruction.<\/p>\n A video recorded by Delany Bell<\/strong> from Lake Cherokee<\/strong> shows the intensity of the storm system as strong gusts of wind<\/strong> swept across the water, sending tree limbs flying and battering lakeside homes.<\/p>\n In Smith County<\/strong>, especially around Whitehouse<\/strong> and Bullard<\/strong>, the storm\u2019s electrical activity proved particularly dangerous. Jeremy Dinger<\/strong> documented a lightning strike<\/strong> that split a tree near FM 346<\/strong> and Bullard\u2019s Children Park<\/strong>, where another large tree was toppled. The thunderstorm’s powerful lightning bolts<\/strong> were heard and seen across the region during the early morning hours.<\/p>\n East Texas<\/strong> remains on alert as crews work to clear debris, assess damage, and restore power in multiple neighborhoods.
