Hotter days ahead for Oregon<\/strong><\/p>\n Oregon<\/strong> could be in for a scorching and parched summer<\/strong>, with early forecasts suggesting higher-than-average temperatures<\/strong> and below-normal rainfall<\/strong> across most of the state. The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center<\/strong> estimates a 50% to 60% chance<\/strong> that July, August and September 2025<\/strong> will bring warmer than normal conditions<\/strong> across much of the region.<\/p>\n For context, historical averages from the National Weather Service in Portland<\/strong> show that the average maximum temperature<\/strong> at Portland International Airport<\/strong> reaches 81.9\u00b0F (27.7\u00b0C)<\/strong> in July<\/strong>, 81.1\u00b0F (27.3\u00b0C)<\/strong> in August<\/strong>, and 76.7\u00b0F (24.8\u00b0C)<\/strong> in September<\/strong>. These figures may soon be eclipsed<\/strong>, especially if the early signs hold true.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rainfall levels expected to dip<\/strong><\/p>\n Alongside the heat, the precipitation outlook<\/strong> is also leaning dry<\/strong>. Much of Oregon<\/strong> is forecast to receive less-than-normal rainfall<\/strong> during June, July and August<\/strong>, according to NOAA. The westernmost coastal zones<\/strong> offer the only element of uncertainty, with an equal chance of normal, above, or below average rainfall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n For comparison, average July rainfall<\/strong> at Portland International Airport<\/strong> is typically 0.51 inches (13 mm)<\/strong>, 0.54 inches (13.7 mm)<\/strong> in August<\/strong>, and 1.52 inches (38.6 mm)<\/strong> in September<\/strong>. If this summer trends drier, vegetation stress and wildfire risks<\/strong> could become increasingly relevant concerns.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A glimpse back at last summer\u2019s extremes<\/strong><\/p>\n Portland<\/strong> recorded its hottest July on record<\/strong> in 2024<\/strong>, and even though August<\/strong> felt milder, it still registered slightly above average temperatures<\/strong>. That pattern may continue \u2014 or intensify \u2014 this year. The recent warm spell in May<\/strong> could be a harbinger of what lies ahead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Climate patterns and regional variability<\/strong><\/p>\n Though much of Oregon<\/strong> may face intensifying heat<\/strong>, coastal regions<\/strong> like Newport<\/strong>, Florence<\/strong>, and Astoria<\/strong> might experience more temperate variability<\/strong>, thanks to the marine influence<\/strong>.
