From blazing heat to cooler, stormy skies<\/strong><\/p>\n Sunday, June 2 \u2014 SALT LAKE CITY, Utah<\/strong> \u2014 Northern and Central Utah<\/strong> are wrapping up the weekend under record-challenging heat<\/strong>, but the weather pattern<\/strong> is set to take a sharp turn by Sunday night<\/strong>, leading into a much cooler and unsettled stretch<\/strong> through Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This Sunday<\/strong> marks one of the hottest days of the season<\/strong> so far for Northern Utah<\/strong>, with temperatures soaring into the low and mid 90s\u00b0F (32\u201335\u00b0C)<\/strong>. In Salt Lake City<\/strong>, the mercury is projected to peak at 95\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>, which would break the previous June 2 record<\/strong> of 94\u00b0F (34\u00b0C) set back in 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Central Utah<\/strong> is also experiencing above-average warmth<\/strong>, while Southern Utah<\/strong>\u2014though still hot\u2014is seeing a slight cooldown<\/strong>. The hottest areas<\/strong> across Eastern and Southern Utah<\/strong> are topping out around 98\u2013102\u00b0F (37\u201339\u00b0C)<\/strong>. In contrast, elevated terrain<\/strong> is holding in the 80s\u00b0F (27\u201330\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As moisture creeps northward<\/strong>, high-based thunderstorms<\/strong> will begin forming over the southern mountains<\/strong> by lunchtime<\/strong>, drifting northward into the West Desert<\/strong> and Wasatch Mountains<\/strong> by evening<\/strong>. Although St. George<\/strong> and parts of the Wasatch Front<\/strong> may catch an isolated storm<\/strong>, a dry layer near the surface<\/strong> means many raindrops will evaporate<\/strong> before hitting the ground\u2014leading instead to gusty and erratic winds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Monday<\/strong> brings the best shot at rain<\/strong>, particularly for Southern and Eastern Utah<\/strong>. Morning showers<\/strong> may develop along the Wasatch Front<\/strong>, and afternoon heating<\/strong> could help ignite more isolated thunderstorms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A notable cooldown<\/strong> arrives hand-in-hand with the moisture.
