That <strong>mountainous region<\/strong> could see <strong>precipitation totals up to 50% higher<\/strong> than historical norms. In contrast, <strong>central<\/strong>, <strong>eastern<\/strong>, and <strong>southern Georgia<\/strong> will likely experience <strong>typical summer rainfall<\/strong>, maintaining a pattern of <strong>short, localized storms<\/strong> without major sustained wet periods.<\/p>\n<p>This distribution of rain means that while <strong>urban centers like Atlanta<\/strong>, <strong>Savannah<\/strong>, and <strong>Macon<\/strong> will probably not see a major deviation from usual summer precipitation levels, <strong>communities in the northwestern hills<\/strong>, such as <strong>Dalton<\/strong> and <strong>Rome<\/strong>, could face <strong>frequent downpours<\/strong> and <strong>occasional flash flooding<\/strong> due to the <strong>above-normal moisture levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drought concerns rise in eastern Georgia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite average rain for most of the state, the <strong>higher-than-normal temperatures<\/strong> \u2014 especially in <strong>eastern Georgia<\/strong> \u2014 are expected to <strong>exacerbate soil dryness<\/strong>. Elevated <strong>evaporation rates<\/strong> from extreme heat may offset normal rainfall, leaving soils dry and stressing both <strong>agricultural systems<\/strong> and <strong>natural vegetation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the <strong>state-wide open burning ban<\/strong>, in place through <strong>September 30<\/strong>, remains <strong>critically important<\/strong> to prevent the ignition of wildfires during periods of <strong>low ground moisture<\/strong> and <strong>high air temperatures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What about Savannah and coastal Georgia?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the <strong>Savannah<\/strong> area and the <strong>southeastern coastal region<\/strong>, rainfall totals are expected to remain <strong>near normal<\/strong>, though <strong>humidity levels<\/strong> will remain <strong>very high<\/strong>, especially during <strong>early morning<\/strong> and <strong>late evening hours<\/strong>.
