Wednesday’s storm threat: central and southern Lower Michigan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Today, Wednesday<\/strong>, meteorologists expect severe storms<\/strong> to affect central and southern parts<\/strong> of the Lower Peninsula<\/strong>, especially during the afternoon and evening hours<\/strong>. The risk level<\/strong> is classified as \u201cslight\u201d<\/strong>, or level 2 out of 5<\/strong>, but that still means isolated severe storms<\/strong> could develop.<\/p>\n

These storms could bring damaging wind gusts<\/strong> over 60 mph<\/strong> and hail<\/strong> up to one inch<\/strong> in diameter. The strongest cells<\/strong> are expected along and just south of I-96<\/strong>, including areas such as Grand Rapids<\/strong>, Lansing<\/strong>, Jackson<\/strong>, and Kalamazoo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thursday’s storm shift: northern Lower Michigan and Upper Peninsula<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Thursday<\/strong>, the threat area moves north. The northern half<\/strong> of Lower Michigan<\/strong> and parts of the eastern Upper Peninsula<\/strong> are under threat for severe weather<\/strong>, again mainly in the afternoon and evening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Forecasts suggest that warm, humid air<\/strong> pushing into northern Michigan<\/strong> may interact with a cold front<\/strong>, triggering scattered thunderstorms<\/strong>, some of which may become severe<\/strong>. Cities like Traverse City<\/strong>, Gaylord<\/strong>, Petoskey<\/strong>, and Sault Ste. Marie<\/strong> are in the risk zone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Temperatures and atmospheric setup<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Today\u2019s highs across southern Michigan<\/strong> could reach around 84\u00b0F (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while northern parts<\/strong> might stay closer to 77\u00b0F (25\u00b0C)<\/strong>. By Thursday, the entire state<\/strong> may see slightly cooler readings, especially as storms increase in coverage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meteorologists are closely watching wind shear levels<\/strong>, which support storm rotation<\/strong>. However, the primary risks remain wind damage<\/strong> and hail<\/strong>, not tornadoes.<\/p>\n

Ongoing monitoring<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Storm Prediction Center<\/strong> continues to monitor the setup and may upgrade the risk levels<\/strong> if conditions evolve.
