Meteorologists monitor possible tropical development near Florida<\/strong><\/p>\n

A tropical system<\/strong> could develop off the southeast coast of Florida<\/strong> in the coming days, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC)<\/strong>. Forecasters say that if the system remains offshore<\/strong>, it could gradually take on subtropical or tropical characteristics<\/strong> by late this week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Slow formation expected offshore<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Tuesday<\/strong>, NHC meteorologists reported that a non-tropical low-pressure area<\/strong> could form near or just off the southeastern U.S. coast<\/strong>. If it stays over open waters, it might begin to strengthen while moving northeastward at 10 to 15 mph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As of now, the chance of development<\/strong> remains low at 10%<\/strong> over both the next 48 hours and over the next 7 days<\/strong>, but it remains under close watch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A favorable zone for early-season storms<\/strong><\/p>\n

Michael Brennan<\/strong>, director of the NHC<\/strong>, emphasized that this region is a climatologically favored area<\/strong> for early-season development. \u201cThis is where we usually see storms form in June\u2014from the Gulf<\/strong>, across Florida<\/strong>, and off the southeast and mid-Atlantic coasts<\/strong>,\u201d Brennan told FOX Weather<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s a good reminder that June storms often develop pretty close to home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

A very active hurricane season ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n

The possible tropical development comes just three days after the start<\/strong> of the Atlantic hurricane season<\/strong>, which runs from June 1 to November 30<\/strong>. According to NOAA<\/strong>, the 2025 season is expected to be above normal<\/strong>, with 13 to 19 named storms<\/strong>, including 6 to 10 hurricanes<\/strong>, and 3 to 5 major hurricanes<\/strong> with winds over 111 mph<\/strong> (179 km\/h).<\/p>\n

\n

Why 2025 is expected to be so active<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several atmospheric and oceanic factors<\/strong> are lining up to fuel a very active season<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

The neutral phase<\/strong> of the El Ni\u00f1o\u2013Southern Oscillation (ENSO)<\/strong> is now in place
The Atlantic Ocean is warmer than average<\/strong>
There is a lack of wind shear<\/strong>, a condition that normally disrupts tropical systems<\/p>\n

This combination of warm water<\/strong>, stable upper-air patterns<\/strong>, and neutral ENSO conditions<\/strong> is setting the stage for frequent and potentially powerful tropical cyclones<\/strong>, some of which may form close to the U.S. mainland<\/strong>, as is being observed now off the Florida coast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
