Visibility<\/strong> can extend beyond forecasted areas depending on cloud cover<\/strong>, light pollution<\/strong>, and the intensity<\/strong> of solar wind streams hitting the magnetic field at any given moment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n When and how to look for auroras<\/strong><\/p>\n For those in the target areas, the best viewing window will begin around 1 a.m. local time<\/strong>, when the night sky is darkest<\/strong>. Seek out a north-facing location<\/strong>, far from urban lighting<\/strong>. The summer season limits true darkness<\/strong>, especially in northern states, making timing<\/strong> and location<\/strong> critical.<\/p>\n Modern smartphone cameras can often detect auroral light<\/strong> before it becomes visible to the naked eye, so try pointing your device at the sky for early hints of activity.
