Heavy rain triggers flash floods across Allegheny and Westmoreland counties<\/strong><\/p>\n PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania<\/strong> \u2014 Friday evening<\/strong> turned into a nightmare for many residents in Allegheny<\/strong> and Westmoreland Counties<\/strong>, as intense thunderstorms<\/strong> unleashed more than 3 inches of rain (7.6 cm)<\/strong> in just 90 minutes<\/strong>, according to KDKA First Alert Meteorologist Ray Petelin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The deluge, which struck during rush hour<\/strong>, led to widespread flash flooding<\/strong>, swamping roads, submerging vehicles, and prompting swift water rescues<\/strong> across several communities, including Monroeville<\/strong>, Rankin<\/strong>, Jeannette<\/strong>, and Greensburg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Streets and vehicles submerged in Monroeville and White Oak<\/strong><\/p>\n On the Tri-Boro Expressway<\/strong> in Monroeville<\/strong>, one vehicle was found almost completely underwater<\/strong>, a dramatic visual testament to the sudden rise in floodwaters. Police<\/strong> responded promptly, but not before floodwaters covered the roadway<\/strong>, cutting off access.<\/p>\n In White Oak<\/strong>, one person had to be rescued from a submerged car<\/strong>, as emergency responders braved hazardous conditions to reach stranded motorists.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Turtle Creek\u2019s Wolvarena inundated<\/strong><\/p>\n In Turtle Creek<\/strong>, the iconic Wolvarena<\/strong> stadium was partially flooded as torrential rain<\/strong> overwhelmed local drainage systems. Images from the scene showed water pooling across the field, echoing the severity of the storm\u2019s impact in the area.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rescues and damages in North Versailles and Wall Borough<\/strong><\/p>\n In North Versailles<\/strong>, at least three water rescues<\/strong> were confirmed: two from flooded homes<\/strong> and one from a car<\/strong>. The situation was equally dire in Wall Borough<\/strong>, where residents described scenes of devastation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pattie Marshall<\/strong>, a local, recounted, \u201cIt was like someone opened a floodgate. It was like a river rushing down the road.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Valley Avenue<\/strong> was especially hard-hit. Debris littered the streets, a shed was dislodged and slammed into a car<\/strong>, and many homes suffered basement and first-floor water damage<\/strong>. One resident even reported water seeping through walls<\/strong> and reaching the living room<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Despite the severity of the flash flooding, no injuries<\/strong> were reported. However, emergency crews faced challenges<\/strong> accessing certain areas due to impassable roads<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n PNC Park delay and multi-county flash flood alerts<\/strong><\/p>\n The Pittsburgh Pirates’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies<\/strong> at PNC Park<\/strong> experienced a rain delay<\/strong>, adding a note of inconvenience to the growing list of storm-related disruptions.<\/p>\n Earlier in the day, the National Weather Service<\/strong> issued flash flood warnings<\/strong> for Allegheny<\/strong>, Beaver<\/strong>, Fayette<\/strong>, Washington<\/strong>, Venango<\/strong>, and Westmoreland counties<\/strong>.
