The alert, which was active from <strong>7:05 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.<\/strong>, warned of <strong>wind gusts up to 50 mph<\/strong> and <strong>nickel-sized hail<\/strong> measuring approximately <strong>0.88 inches<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf29\ufe0f Affected areas and storm movement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At 7:05 p.m., <strong>Doppler radar<\/strong> indicated a <strong>strong thunderstorm near Walhalla<\/strong>, moving <strong>east at 30 mph<\/strong>. Impacted locations included <strong>Clemson<\/strong>, <strong>Seneca<\/strong>, <strong>Walhalla<\/strong>, <strong>Central<\/strong>, <strong>Pendleton<\/strong>, <strong>Six Mile<\/strong>, <strong>Norris<\/strong>, and the surrounding area of <strong>Lake Keowee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The storm brought potential threats<\/strong> such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gusty winds<\/strong> capable of <strong>breaking tree limbs<\/strong> and <strong>displacing unsecured objects<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Minor hail damage<\/strong> to property and vegetation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lightning danger<\/strong> extending <strong>up to 10 miles<\/strong> from the thunderstorm core<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>Severe Thunderstorm Watch<\/strong> remains active until <strong>9 p.m.<\/strong> for the <strong>Upstate region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf29\ufe0f Lightning safety during a thunderstorm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With approximately <strong>25 million lightning strikes<\/strong> annually across the <strong>United States<\/strong>, it&#8217;s essential to understand that the <strong>risk of lightning increases<\/strong> as a storm nears, <strong>peaks when it&#8217;s overhead<\/strong>, and then gradually decreases as it moves away. Still, <strong>lightning can strike even miles from the storm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>minimize risk outdoors<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plan your route<\/strong> with access to a <strong>safe structure<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Seek shelter immediately<\/strong> when thunder is heard<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid elevated areas<\/strong>, <strong>isolated tall objects<\/strong>, and <strong>open fields<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Disperse groups<\/strong> to prevent multiple injuries in the event of a strike<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep away from water<\/strong> and <strong>metal surfaces<\/strong>, which are excellent conductors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If <strong>shelter indoors<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Do not use corded phones<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Avoid <strong>electrical appliances<\/strong>, <strong>plumbing fixtures<\/strong>, and <strong>windows<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Remain inside for at least <strong>30 minutes<\/strong> after the last thunderclap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\ude97 Road safety during intense rainfall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When driving under storm conditions, heavy rainfall can cause dangerous road conditions and <strong>limited visibility<\/strong>.
