On the afternoon of Sunday, June 8<\/strong>, the National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong> issued a severe thunderstorm warning<\/strong> in effect until 4:30 p.m.<\/strong> for the City of Williamsburg<\/strong>, located in the heart of Eastern Virginia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Storm watch in place across several Central Virginia counties<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A severe thunderstorm watch<\/strong> \u2014 meaning that conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms<\/strong> \u2014 is currently in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday night<\/strong> for the following Central Virginia<\/strong> localities:<\/p>\n

Amelia County<\/strong>, Brunswick County<\/strong>, Charles City County<\/strong>, City of Colonial Heights<\/strong>, City of Emporia<\/strong>, City of Petersburg<\/strong>, Dinwiddie County<\/strong>, Greensville County<\/strong>, Lunenburg County<\/strong>, Mecklenburg County<\/strong>, Nottoway County<\/strong>, Prince Edward County<\/strong>, Prince George County<\/strong>, and Sussex County<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What to expect: strong wind gusts, downed trees, and power outages<\/strong><\/h3>\n

According to forecasts, storms may bring damaging winds<\/strong> capable of knocking down trees and power lines<\/strong>, with the risk of localized blackouts<\/strong> in affected areas.<\/p>\n

If you’re in one of the warned locations, move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of your building<\/strong>, away from windows, and remain there until the threat has passed.<\/p>\n

The weather is being closely monitored by the NWS office in Wakefield<\/strong>, and additional warnings or updates<\/strong> may be issued throughout the evening.<\/p>\n
