Other streets in the area were left impassable<\/strong>, littered with downed trees and submerged in stormwater.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Testimonies from Batavia: \u201cIt was like green confetti everywhere\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Diane Anderson<\/strong>, a Batavia resident, was caught in the heart of the storm. As she tried to offer friends a ride, the sky unleashed blinding rain and howling wind<\/strong>. She described the neighborhood aftermath as if \u201csomeone threw green confetti<\/strong>\u201d\u2014a vivid image of streets covered with shredded leaves and broken branches.<\/p>\n Her husband, Patrick Sommerfeld<\/strong>, was watching from their house. \u201cThe first minute was rain, the second minute hail coming sideways, and then the sound \u2014 like a locomotive<\/strong>,\u201d he recounted. Moments later, a massive tree fell just short of their porch<\/strong>, driven by the force of sideways winds<\/strong> and zero visibility.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Severe thunderstorm warnings now expired, but destruction lingers<\/strong><\/p>\n The National Weather Service had issued Severe Thunderstorm Warnings<\/strong> through Sunday evening for Cook<\/strong>, DuPage<\/strong>, and Kane Counties<\/strong>, but those alerts have since expired. Despite that, crews remained active overnight<\/strong>, especially on Route 31<\/strong>, clearing downed power lines<\/strong> and flooded roads<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Power outages<\/strong> persisted through Sunday night<\/strong>, and residents in some areas were informed that electricity might not be restored until Monday morning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n No tornadoes, but storms pack a powerful punch<\/strong><\/p>\n According to ABC7 Meteorologist Greg Dutra<\/strong>, there was no risk of tornadoes<\/strong>, but the straight-line winds<\/strong> and hail impact<\/strong> caused significant structural and environmental damage. These scattered yet severe storms<\/strong> were quick to develop and even quicker to strike \u2014 catching many off guard.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Looking ahead: Light showers may return Monday<\/strong><\/p>\n While the most dangerous storms have passed<\/strong>, stray afternoon showers are still possible<\/strong> on Monday<\/strong> across the Chicago region<\/strong>.
