Severe weather threat across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana<\/strong><\/p>\n A major severe weather event<\/strong> is forecast for Sunday, June 9, 2025<\/strong>, with the National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong> warning of damaging winds up to 100 mph (160 km\/h)<\/strong> and hailstones reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm)<\/strong> in diameter. The most impacted areas include Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas<\/strong> and Louisiana<\/strong>, all of which fall under the highest threat level<\/strong> for the afternoon and evening hours.<\/p>\n Dallas<\/strong>, Fort Worth<\/strong>, and Wichita Falls<\/strong> are at the epicenter of the outbreak<\/strong>, with Oklahoma City<\/strong>, Abilene<\/strong>, and Lubbock<\/strong> facing an enhanced risk<\/strong>. Shreveport<\/strong>, Little Rock<\/strong>, and Wichita<\/strong> will be at slight risk<\/strong>, but still face potentially hazardous conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Destructive straight-line winds and the risk of derechos<\/strong><\/p>\n Forecasters at the NWS Storm Prediction Center<\/strong> are closely monitoring conditions favorable for a derecho<\/strong>, a long-lived, fast-moving thunderstorm complex that brings intense straight-line winds<\/strong>, frequently exceeding 80 to 100 mph (129 to 160 km\/h)<\/strong>. Such storms often result in widespread destruction<\/strong>, including roof damage<\/strong>, uprooted trees<\/strong>, and extended power outages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The fast-moving nature of these storms could leave residents with very little reaction time<\/strong>. The NWS<\/strong> has emphasized: “Do not wait to see or hear the signs of a storm\u2014take action immediately when a warning is issued.”<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tornadoes and flash flooding also possible<\/strong><\/p>\n Alongside the high wind threat, meteorologists warn of a few tornadoes<\/strong>, especially in parts of central and northern Texas<\/strong> and southern Oklahoma<\/strong>. These tornadoes may form quickly and be difficult to spot<\/strong> due to rain-wrapped conditions. Additionally, the heavy rainfall<\/strong> expected during these storms could lead to flash flooding<\/strong>, particularly in low-lying areas<\/strong> and near creeks or small rivers.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Storm timing and preparedness<\/strong><\/p>\n The severe weather threat<\/strong> is expected to initiate during early afternoon<\/strong>, with the greatest intensity between 4 PM and 10 PM local time<\/strong>. By late evening, the storm system will likely weaken<\/strong> as it moves eastward.
