Warm spell ends in western Washington<\/strong><\/p>\n After several days of unusually warm temperatures<\/strong>, western Washington<\/strong> is bracing for a notable shift in weather<\/strong>. Starting Thursday<\/strong>, a cool marine layer<\/strong> will sweep in, marking the return of June gloom<\/strong>, according to Cliff Mass<\/strong>, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences<\/strong> at the University of Washington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thursday brings clouds and cooler air<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThe June gloom will be here<\/strong>,\u201d Mass explained during an appearance on The Jason Rantz Show<\/strong> on KTTH<\/strong>. Mass highlighted that Seattle<\/strong>, Tacoma<\/strong>, and Everett<\/strong> are all at or near normal<\/strong> for water storage. \u201cThere\u2019s not going to be a water shortage,\u201d he affirmed, even though precipitation totals<\/strong> have lagged behind seasonal averages.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dry weather not tied to global warming<\/strong><\/p>\n When asked whether the recent dry spell<\/strong> might be linked to climate change<\/strong>, Mass was clear: \u201cYou can\u2019t pin it on global warming<\/strong>, but you can pin it on natural variability of the atmosphere<\/strong>.\u201d He emphasized that similar patterns have occurred in the past and are not unprecedented<\/strong>.<\/p>\n However, he acknowledged a broader trend: global temperatures are slowly rising<\/strong>. \u201cThe Earth is warming slowly<\/strong>, and that\u2019s having an effect on temperatures\u2014they are one to two degrees Fahrenheit (0.5 to 1\u00b0C)<\/strong> warmer than they were,\u201d he said.
