Strong storms approaching from the west on Wednesday<\/strong><\/p>\n A DANA<\/strong>\u2014a high-altitude isolated depression\u2014will approach the western Iberian Peninsula<\/strong> tomorrow, triggering severe thunderstorms<\/strong> across northern and northeastern Spain<\/strong>. Tuesday, June 10<\/strong>, will mark the start of a turbulent weather episode, with unstable air<\/strong>, surface wind convergence<\/strong>, and orographic effects<\/strong> fueling the growth of towering convective clouds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n These storms are expected to intensify rapidly as the DANA\u2019s core<\/strong> gets closer, particularly in the afternoon<\/strong> and early evening hours<\/strong>. Thunderstorm cells<\/strong> will unleash large hailstones<\/strong>, frequent lightning<\/strong>, and gusty winds<\/strong>, especially in the northern part of Castilla y Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, Asturias<\/strong>, Cantabria<\/strong>, Basque Country<\/strong>, Navarra<\/strong>, La Rioja<\/strong>, northern Catalonia<\/strong>, and the Ebro Valley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n High lightning density and fire risk<\/strong><\/p>\n The electrical activity<\/strong> will increase noticeably throughout the day, with lightning strikes<\/strong> becoming widespread by midday and gradually declining overnight. Although precipitation may remain localized<\/strong> and scattered<\/strong>, the storm structure will be more organized<\/strong> than it is today.<\/p>\n In southern Spain<\/strong>, storms will be less frequent<\/strong> but the fire risk<\/strong> remains heightened due to the intense lightning activity<\/strong> combined with dry surface conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n High risk of large hail and downbursts<\/strong><\/p>\n Tomorrow brings an elevated threat<\/strong> of large hail<\/strong>\u2014potentially over 1 inch (2.5 cm)<\/strong> in diameter\u2014in the submeseta norte<\/strong>, inland Basque Country<\/strong>, Navarra<\/strong>, parts of the Ebro Basin<\/strong>, and around the Iberian System<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Downbursts<\/strong>\u2014also known as reventones<\/strong> or esclafits<\/strong>\u2014are expected as well. These are violent downdrafts<\/strong> of cold air crashing to the ground from storm clouds<\/strong>, capable of producing damaging straight-line winds<\/strong>. Areas particularly vulnerable include Castilla y Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, Castilla-La Mancha<\/strong>, Extremadura<\/strong>, La Rioja<\/strong>, Basque Country<\/strong>, Arag\u00f3n<\/strong>, Catalonia<\/strong>, and Navarra<\/strong>, where wind gusts<\/strong> could surpass 55 mph (90 km\/h)<\/strong>, potentially causing localized damage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n AEMET issues warnings in 9 regions<\/strong><\/p>\n Due to the forecasted intensity of these storms, AEMET<\/strong> has activated yellow and orange alerts<\/strong> across nine Spanish autonomous communities<\/strong> for Tuesday, June 10<\/strong>.
