Clinton and Perry lakes see a rise after early June rainfall<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Over the first week of June<\/strong>, northeast Kansas<\/strong> experienced intense precipitation<\/strong>, with several inches of rainfall<\/strong> recorded in multiple areas. As a result, federal officials<\/strong> report that water levels<\/strong> at key reservoirs such as Clinton Lake<\/strong> and Perry Lake<\/strong> have risen notably<\/strong>. According to the Kansas City District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)<\/strong>, Clinton Lake<\/strong> rose by 2.3 feet<\/strong>, while Perry Lake<\/strong> climbed by 0.75 feet<\/strong>. These increases support seasonal targets<\/strong> for wildlife and fisheries<\/strong> within these bodies of water.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Smaller increases<\/strong> were recorded at Tuttle Creek Lake<\/strong> and Milford Lake<\/strong>, though their gains did not exceed half a foot<\/strong>. Despite this limited input, both are now making controlled releases<\/strong> downstream, mirroring the actions at Clinton and Perry.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n USACE<\/strong> is carefully regulating these discharges to maintain downstream water quality<\/strong> and meet supply obligations<\/strong>, releasing no more than 1,500 cubic feet per second<\/strong> from Clinton and Perry, and somewhat smaller amounts<\/strong> from Tuttle Creek and Milford.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Most Kansas lakes reach seasonal targets \u2014 except Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n Among the six main Kansas lakes<\/strong> monitored by the Corps \u2014 Milford<\/strong>, Tuttle Creek<\/strong>, Perry<\/strong>, Clinton<\/strong>, Kanopolis<\/strong>, and Wilson<\/strong> \u2014 five are now above their normal pool level<\/strong>, filled to seasonal elevation goals. This aids in the preservation of aquatic ecosystems<\/strong> and recreational access<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Wilson Lake<\/strong>, however, remains a stubborn outlier<\/strong>. As of Monday, June 9<\/strong>, it is reported to be nearly five feet below<\/strong> its standard level. Kanopolis Lake<\/strong>, in contrast, saw an earlier improvement from rain events prior to June 2<\/strong>, leaving it more than one foot above<\/strong> normal.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Drought conditions remain in central and western Kansas<\/strong><\/p>\n Despite these improvements in northeast Kansas<\/strong>, drought conditions<\/strong> continue to affect central and western regions<\/strong>. Wilson Lake<\/strong> remains severely impacted by deficits from a dry winter<\/strong>, and recent rain did little to change its situation.<\/p>\n The USACE\u2019s ongoing reservoir management<\/strong> is designed to respond dynamically to such conditions. While strategic water releases<\/strong> continue, the long-term impacts of earlier drought<\/strong> have not been fully resolved.
