The <strong>High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model<\/strong> shows a <strong>band of thunderstorms<\/strong>, which initially formed across the <strong>Texas Panhandle<\/strong> on <strong>Monday<\/strong>, sweeping through the <strong>Hill Country<\/strong> by <strong>late Tuesday morning<\/strong>, reaching the <strong>Houston metro area<\/strong> shortly afterward.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Tuesday: high chances of early morning storms<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Expect <strong>scattered storms<\/strong>\u2014with a <strong>40 to 60 percent chance<\/strong>\u2014especially <strong>north of Interstate 10<\/strong> and <strong>west of Interstate 45<\/strong> during the early morning hours. <strong>Rainfall totals<\/strong> through <strong>Wednesday morning<\/strong> could easily exceed <strong>1 inch (25 mm)<\/strong> in several locations. While widespread flooding is unlikely, <strong>localized flash flooding<\/strong> may occur in <strong>low-lying<\/strong> or <strong>poorly drained urban areas<\/strong> due to <strong>high rainfall rates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the thunderstorm complex may <strong>weaken slightly<\/strong>, it is expected to maintain enough <strong>energy<\/strong> to move through <strong>Houston<\/strong> by <strong>late morning or early afternoon<\/strong>. These <strong>early-day storms<\/strong> will likely <strong>stabilize the atmosphere<\/strong>, possibly resulting in <strong>a dry evening commute<\/strong> across the metro area.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Wednesday: more storms with uncertain timing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Another <strong>upper-level system<\/strong> will cross the <strong>Red River Valley<\/strong> on <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>, maintaining an <strong>active pattern<\/strong> over the region. Forecast models suggest a <strong>new thunderstorm cluster<\/strong> could leave the <strong>Hill Country<\/strong> by <strong>daybreak<\/strong> and push into <strong>Southeast Texas<\/strong> between <strong>9 a.m. and noon<\/strong>. If this verifies, the atmosphere may be too <strong>exhausted of instability<\/strong> to support additional storm activity during the <strong>afternoon hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Rainfall accumulations through Monday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>National Weather Service\u2019s Weather Prediction Center<\/strong> estimates that <strong>rain totals<\/strong> may reach <strong>2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm)<\/strong> in areas <strong>north of Houston<\/strong>, particularly near <strong>Waco<\/strong> and across <strong>North Texas<\/strong>, where the <strong>flooding risk<\/strong> is expected to be higher. The <strong>Houston area<\/strong> will also see <strong>substantial precipitation<\/strong>, although not necessarily as concentrated.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Late week: slightly drier, but not dry<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>By <strong>Thursday and Friday<\/strong>, <strong>storm chances<\/strong> remain but could <strong>decrease<\/strong> as <strong>high atmospheric pressure<\/strong> begins to build from the <strong>southwest<\/strong>. Should this <strong>high-pressure ridge<\/strong> gain control, rain chances may <strong>drop to 40% or less<\/strong> by the end of the week. Regardless, <strong>cloud cover<\/strong> and <strong>occasional showers<\/strong> will keep <strong>temperatures<\/strong> in check, with <strong>afternoon highs<\/strong> hovering between <strong>88\u00b0F and 92\u00b0F (31\u00b0C to 33\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Weekend forecast: classic June heat with tropical moisture<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Typical <strong>June weather<\/strong> returns this weekend. <strong>Houston\u2019s normal high<\/strong> for this time of year sits between <strong>91\u00b0F and 93\u00b0F (33\u00b0C to 34\u00b0C)<\/strong>.
