Shortly after, a <strong>strong EF-2 wedge tornado<\/strong> tracked eastward, destroying <strong>large wooden power poles<\/strong> and crossing <strong>TX-214<\/strong>, north of <strong>Morton<\/strong>, before dissipating in <strong>northeastern Cochran County<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The supercell then moved into <strong>northwestern Hockley County<\/strong>, producing another strong but <strong>unrated tornado<\/strong> near <strong>Pettit<\/strong>, followed minutes later by a <strong>brief cone-type tornado<\/strong> just north of the same area.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>US-385 tornado overturns truck and destroys structures<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The storm&#8217;s next tornado, rated <strong>EF-2<\/strong>, formed near <strong>Whitharral<\/strong> and <strong>crossed US-385<\/strong>, rolling a <strong>semi-truck<\/strong>, snapping power poles, and damaging multiple buildings and trees. This tornado remained on the ground for nearly <strong>9.3 miles<\/strong>, with winds peaking at <strong>125 mph (201 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Smyer and Reese Center hit by three tornadoes, including EF-2<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As the system neared <strong>Lubbock County<\/strong>, it spawned three more tornadoes. The <strong>first Smyer tornado<\/strong>, rated <strong>EF-1<\/strong>, tore through a <strong>manufactured home community<\/strong>, injuring <strong>two people<\/strong>. Immediately after, a second, <strong>stronger EF-2 tornado<\/strong> developed and tracked southeast, destroying another manufactured home and damaging structures near <strong>TX-114<\/strong> and <strong>FM 2378<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>final tornado<\/strong>, rated <strong>EF-1<\/strong>, touched down in <strong>Reese Center<\/strong>, toppling trees and damaging roofs before dissipating just outside the <strong>Lubbock city limits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Severe downburst winds and large hail batter Lubbock<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Even after tornado activity ceased, the supercell unleashed <strong>straight-line winds up to 115 mph (185 km\/h)<\/strong> and <strong>hail up to 2.5 inches (6.35 cm)<\/strong> across <strong>western and southwestern Lubbock<\/strong>. The most severe damage was reported <strong>north of TX-114<\/strong>, with <strong>broken windows<\/strong>, <strong>roof damage<\/strong>, and <strong>tree debris<\/strong> scattered as far south as <strong>Wolfforth<\/strong> and east to <strong>Avenue Q<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peak gusts<\/strong> recorded by the <strong>West Texas Mesonet<\/strong> reached <strong>80 mph (129 km\/h)<\/strong>, contributing to extensive residential and commercial losses.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Enhanced Fujita ratings assigned by NWS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Of the <strong>eight confirmed tornadoes<\/strong>, three were rated <strong>EF-2<\/strong>, two were <strong>EF-1<\/strong>, and three remained <strong>unrated<\/strong> due to the absence of observable damage despite radar-confirmed rotation and spotter reports.
