Tuesday, June 17<\/strong>, much of Kansas<\/strong> \u2014 including Topeka<\/strong> \u2014 is under an enhanced risk<\/strong> for severe thunderstorms<\/strong>, damaging winds<\/strong>, large hail<\/strong>, and isolated tornadoes<\/strong>, according to the National Weather Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A slow-moving front<\/strong> is expected to develop across the state, creating the right conditions for widespread thunderstorm activity<\/strong>. A graphic from the Topeka weather office<\/strong> highlights the main threats:<\/p>\n Hail larger than 2 inches<\/strong> in diameter (over 5 cm<\/strong>), Cities included in the enhanced risk zone<\/strong> are Topeka<\/strong>, Salina<\/strong>, Hutchinson<\/strong>, Wichita<\/strong>, Manhattan<\/strong>, Lawrence<\/strong>, Holton<\/strong>, and Ottawa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n An enhanced outlook<\/strong> is issued when forecasters have high confidence<\/strong> that numerous scattered severe storms<\/strong> will occur. These storms are likely to produce destructive wind<\/strong>, significant hail<\/strong>, and isolated tornadoes<\/strong>. It’s a step above \u201cslight risk\u201d and reflects a greater potential for impactful weather<\/strong> across central and northeast Kansas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n During the morning of June 17<\/strong>, a marginal risk<\/strong> is forecast for parts of Hutchinson<\/strong>, Salina<\/strong>, Wichita<\/strong>, Manhattan<\/strong>, and Marysville<\/strong>. Notably, Topeka<\/strong> is excluded from this early phase.<\/p>\n The NWS notes: There is a slight chance for excessive rainfall<\/strong> between the evening of June 17<\/strong> and the early morning of June 18<\/strong>.
