A powerful storm system<\/strong> is set to strike Michigan<\/strong> on Wednesday afternoon into the night<\/strong>, with the storm center projected to move from Muskegon to Saginaw<\/strong>. According to the latest high-resolution weather data<\/strong>, the heaviest rainfall will occur north of this storm path<\/strong>, bringing widespread rainfall totals between one and three inches<\/strong> across much of Lower Michigan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Areas likely to see over 2 inches of rainfall<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The strongest precipitation<\/strong> is expected in a broad swath that includes Traverse City<\/strong>, Houghton Lake<\/strong>, and Oscoda<\/strong>, with localized amounts reaching or exceeding 3 to 4 inches<\/strong> in spots that experience intense thunderstorms<\/strong>. Model averages from NOAA\u2019s High Resolution Ensemble Forecasts<\/strong> indicate Saginaw<\/strong>, Bay City<\/strong>, Mount Pleasant<\/strong>, and Alma<\/strong> will be among the areas with the highest rain totals\u2014likely over 2 inches (50.8 mm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From I-94 to northern Michigan: widespread 1-inch+ totals<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Most of Lower Michigan<\/strong>, including regions along and north of I-94<\/strong>, such as Detroit<\/strong>, Ann Arbor<\/strong>, Jackson<\/strong>, and Kalamazoo<\/strong>, will see rainfall over 1 inch (25.4 mm)<\/strong>. This extends northward all the way to Traverse City<\/strong> and the Lake Huron shoreline<\/strong> around Oscoda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Severe thunderstorms likely in southern Michigan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The southern section of the state<\/strong>, especially along I-94<\/strong>, is also expected to deal with severe thunderstorms<\/strong>. These storms could produce more than an inch of rain<\/strong> in a very short time frame<\/strong>, elevating the threat of flash flooding<\/strong> in susceptible areas.<\/p>\n
