NEW YORK, Monday, June 16, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Iconic meteorologist Jim Cantore<\/strong> has issued a warning about a \u201cdifferent\u201d tropical storm<\/strong> that may be heading toward the West Coast<\/strong> of the United States<\/strong>. The fifth named system of the season, Tropical Storm Dalilia<\/strong>, is being tracked closely, and according to Cantore<\/strong>, it could behave very differently<\/strong> from the previous four.<\/p>\n Although Dalilia<\/strong> has officially dissipated<\/strong>, the National Hurricane Center<\/strong> reported on Monday morning<\/strong> that a new area of disturbed weather<\/strong> is forming in the eastern Pacific<\/strong>, near the coasts of El Salvador<\/strong>, Guatemala<\/strong>, and southern Mexico<\/strong>. The center posted the following alert:<\/p>\n \u201c#Dalilia has dissipated, but another area in the eastern #Pacific is likely to become a #TropicalDepression within 48 hours. Hazardous winds and seas are possible, regardless of tropical development, offshore El Salvador, Guatemala, and southern Mexico with this low.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Despite Dalilia\u2019s current status, Cantore<\/strong>, a veteran on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel<\/strong>, pointed out that hi-resolution forecast models<\/strong> suggest this new system could develop significantly before making landfall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cOur 5th named storm will be much different than the previous 4. This one is very likely coming ashore,\u201d<\/strong> he wrote on X (formerly Twitter)<\/strong>, where he has more than 1.3 million followers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The threat isn’t limited to storm formation. The National Weather Service<\/strong> has issued an advisory for heavy rainfall<\/strong> today across parts of western Mexico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Additional precipitation amounts of 1 to 2 inches<\/strong> (about 25\u201350 mm<\/strong>) are expected in the states of Nayarit<\/strong>, Jalisco<\/strong>, Colima<\/strong>, and Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, with isolated totals<\/strong> reaching up to 9 inches<\/strong> (about 229 mm<\/strong>) near the coast. These rainfalls could result in flash flooding<\/strong> and mudslides<\/strong>, though the frequency of such hazards is expected to gradually decrease<\/strong> later in the day.<\/p>\n While the current disturbance remains offshore near Central America<\/strong>, meteorologists are keeping a close watch on the system\u2019s trajectory and evolution<\/strong>, especially for any possible impacts along the Southern California<\/strong> coastline.
