Montclair<\/strong>, in North Jersey<\/strong>, is preparing for a stretch of intense heat<\/strong> next week that could see temperatures soaring into the upper 90s Fahrenheit (mid-30s Celsius)<\/strong>. In response, the Montclair School District<\/strong> announced plans to shorten school days<\/strong> for the week of June 23\u201326<\/strong>, citing concerns over student and staff safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a message sent to parents on Tuesday, June 18<\/strong>, Interim Superintendent Damen G. Cooper<\/strong> explained that although weather conditions may evolve<\/strong>, the district is taking proactive steps<\/strong> to mitigate the effects of the forecasted heat wave<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The modified schedule will now include early dismissals on June 23 and June 24<\/strong>, in addition to the already planned shortened days on June 25 and June 26<\/strong>. A final decision<\/strong> on this adjusted schedule will be made on Saturday, June 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to the National Weather Service<\/strong>, an advisory<\/strong> is now in effect, warning of an extended period of dangerous heat and humidity<\/strong> starting as early as Saturday, June 22<\/strong>, and likely peaking between Monday and Wednesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For Montclair<\/strong>, the daily high temperatures<\/strong> are expected to reach:<\/p>\n

Sunday, June 23<\/strong> \u2013 around 95\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>
\nMonday, June 24<\/strong> \u2013 close to 97\u00b0F (36\u00b0C)<\/strong>
\nTuesday, June 25<\/strong> \u2013 approximately 93\u00b0F (34\u00b0C)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This developing situation raises the question: will other school districts across North Jersey<\/strong> follow Montclair\u2019s lead<\/strong> and adapt their schedules in light of this heat emergency<\/strong>?<\/p>\n
