Three tornadoes<\/strong> have been officially confirmed<\/strong> by the National Weather Service<\/strong> following the severe storms<\/strong> that hit Northeast Ohio<\/strong> on Wednesday evening<\/strong>, June 18. The confirmation came Thursday evening<\/strong>, and included two tornadoes in Ottawa County<\/strong> and one that moved from Huron County<\/strong> into Lorain County<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A weak tornado<\/strong>, rated EF-0<\/strong>, touched down in Elmore<\/strong>, a village in Ottawa County<\/strong>, reaching estimated wind speeds of 80 mph (129 km\/h)<\/strong>. According to the NWS, it had a path length of 0.54 miles<\/strong> and a width of about 10 yards<\/strong>, enough to bring localized damage<\/strong> in its brief but intense passage.<\/p>\n Another EF-0 tornado<\/strong>, with slightly lower peak winds of 70 mph (113 km\/h)<\/strong>, impacted Rocky Ridge<\/strong>, also in Ottawa County<\/strong>. This funnel was longer<\/strong>, measuring 2.94 miles in length<\/strong>, but maintained the same 10-yard width<\/strong>. These two tornadoes highlight the vulnerability of western Lake Erie counties<\/strong> to brief spin-ups<\/strong> during fast-moving storm systems.<\/p>\n The strongest tornado of the night, rated EF-1<\/strong>, began its track near Collins<\/strong> in Huron County<\/strong>. With winds reaching 100 mph (161 km\/h)<\/strong>, it uprooted trees<\/strong> and damaged structures as it moved through Wakeman<\/strong>, before entering Lorain County<\/strong> near the Firelands Boy Scout Reservation<\/strong>. It ultimately dissipated northwest of Kipton<\/strong>, but not before carving out a 9.36-mile path<\/strong> and expanding up to 200 yards wide<\/strong>. It tore off part of a roof<\/strong> and continued to bring destruction to trees<\/strong> along its route.<\/p>\n The tornado outbreak<\/strong> prompted seven separate tornado warnings<\/strong> across multiple counties, including Lorain<\/strong>, Summit<\/strong>, Ottawa<\/strong>, Geauga<\/strong>, Portage<\/strong>, Erie<\/strong>, and Mahoning<\/strong>. Alongside those alerts, severe thunderstorm warnings<\/strong> were issued throughout Northeast Ohio<\/strong>, with Cuyahoga County<\/strong> experiencing intense conditions as well.<\/p>\n Across the entire region, damaging wind gusts<\/strong> brought large tree limbs crashing onto vehicles<\/strong> and caused widespread power outages<\/strong>, affecting thousands of homes and businesses<\/strong>.
