Most of New Jersey<\/strong> is under an “enhanced risk<\/strong>,” which implies higher confidence<\/strong> in severe storms<\/strong> producing large hail<\/strong>, strong winds<\/strong>, and even tornadoes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, New York City<\/strong>, Long Island<\/strong>, and Connecticut<\/strong> fall under a “slight risk<\/strong>,” meaning scattered severe storms<\/strong> are possible, with an elevated threat of wind damage<\/strong> and hail formation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This afternoon<\/strong> brings a 30% chance of thunderstorms<\/strong>, with a high around 86\u00b0F (30\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Showers and storms may persist through the evening<\/strong>, gradually clearing after 2 a.m.<\/strong>, with overnight lows near 70\u00b0F (21\u00b0C)<\/strong>. The NWS<\/strong> warns of “organized lines<\/strong> of thunderstorms** and multicell clusters<\/strong>,” particularly between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.<\/strong>, with the most severe impacts<\/strong> expected during that window.<\/p>\n

By Friday<\/strong>, skies will clear, and sunshine returns<\/strong>, with temperatures near 81\u00b0F (27\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An isolated tornado<\/strong> remains a low but real possibility<\/strong>, especially in Southern Westchester County<\/strong> and parts of North Jersey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A severe thunderstorm watch<\/strong> has been issued until 9 p.m.<\/strong> for much of the Tri-State region<\/strong>, as models continue to show the potential for bowing storm structures<\/strong> and rapidly intensifying clusters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Weather New York: Heat wave builds early next week<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As storms move out<\/strong>, New York City<\/strong> will turn toward a sweltering pattern<\/strong> from Sunday through Thursday<\/strong>. While air temperatures<\/strong> are expected to peak in the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit (31\u201333\u00b0C)<\/strong>, the heat index<\/strong>\u2014what it feels like due to humidity\u2014could easily exceed 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Starting Sunday<\/strong>, highs will reach 86\u00b0F (30\u00b0C)<\/strong> under partly sunny skies<\/strong>. Monday and Tuesday<\/strong> bring bright sunshine<\/strong> and climbing highs of 88\u00b0F (31\u00b0C)<\/strong> and 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong>, respectively. By Wednesday<\/strong>, the heat wave continues<\/strong> with similar conditions.<\/p>\n

Despite the uncomfortable stretch<\/strong>, it’s worth noting that New York City<\/strong> has hit the 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> mark only three times in June<\/strong> in recorded history.
