\"\"Severe thunderstorms<\/strong> swept through Montgomery County, Maryland<\/strong> on Thursday evening<\/strong>, leaving behind a trail of fallen trees<\/strong>, power outages<\/strong>, and road closures<\/strong>. The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS)<\/strong> reported multiple incidents that severely impacted traffic and infrastructure across the region.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer<\/strong>, the River Road corridor<\/strong>, between the Beltway<\/strong> and Falls Road<\/strong>, is currently facing multiple closures<\/strong>. River Road<\/strong> is completely shut down<\/strong> near Persimmon Tree Road<\/strong>, and traffic is also blocked in front of the Congressional Country Club<\/strong>. Another closure has been confirmed on Falls Road<\/strong>, in the 9500 block.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Emergency crews responded to several locations where trees crashed into homes<\/strong>, vehicles caught fire<\/strong>, and live wires<\/strong> created hazardous conditions:<\/p>\n

In Bethesda<\/strong>, a tree fell onto a house<\/strong> on 6200 Vorlich Lane<\/strong> near Barr Road<\/strong>, though no injuries<\/strong> were reported. A similar situation occurred on Mohican Drive<\/strong>, where downed trees and a vehicle fire<\/strong> led to a full road blockage near Rivercrest Court<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Potomac<\/strong>, a tree fell onto a house<\/strong> on 11,000 Home Place Lane<\/strong>, near Piney Glen Lane<\/strong>, with no reported injuries.<\/p>\n

In Silver Spring<\/strong>, two homes were struck by trees \u2014 one on 7900 Takoma Avenue<\/strong> near Richmond Avenue<\/strong>, and another on 1600 Noyes Drive<\/strong> near 2nd Avenue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kensington<\/strong> was also affected, with a tree on a home<\/strong> at 11300 Palisades Court<\/strong>, near Sims Drive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A major crash<\/strong> occurred at Connecticut Avenue and East West Highway<\/strong>, involving a bus<\/strong> and a passenger vehicle<\/strong>. Initial reports mentioned a tree landing on a vehicle<\/strong> with possible entrapment, but emergency medics later confirmed no serious injuries<\/strong> and no individuals trapped. Multiple lanes remain blocked<\/strong> at this intersection.<\/p>\n

Additional tree damage was reported at the intersection of Falls Road and River Road<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As of this morning in New York<\/strong> (Friday, June 20, 2025<\/strong>, 8:30 AM EDT), officials<\/strong> continue to assess the damage<\/strong>, while drivers<\/strong> are strongly encouraged to avoid the affected areas<\/strong> and monitor local advisories<\/strong> for real-time updates<\/strong> on road safety<\/strong> and power restoration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
