Severe weather is expected to strike parts of central Pennsylvania today,<\/strong> Thursday, June 20<\/strong>, as powerful thunderstorms<\/strong> develop ahead of an approaching cold front<\/strong>. The National Weather Service<\/strong> is warning residents in the southeastern half of central Pennsylvania<\/strong>, especially Dauphin<\/strong>, Cumberland<\/strong>, York<\/strong>, and Lancaster Counties<\/strong>, to prepare for intense weather conditions this afternoon and evening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The storms, which will likely intensify in the afternoon<\/strong>, are expected to bring damaging wind gusts<\/strong>, the primary threat<\/strong> associated with today’s severe weather. These thunderstorms<\/strong> are forecast to develop during the hottest part of the day<\/strong>, before pushing east and exiting the region by midnight<\/strong>. Torrential downpours<\/strong>, frequent lightning<\/strong>, and isolated hail<\/strong> cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n Tomorrow, Friday, June 21<\/strong>, marks the first official day of summer<\/strong>, and will offer slightly cooler and less humid air<\/strong>. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit (around 28 \u00b0C)<\/strong>, with only a minor chance<\/strong> of a brief, passing shower<\/strong>. However, this momentary break will be short-lived.<\/p>\n By Saturday<\/strong>, temperatures will begin to rise rapidly, setting the tone for a prolonged heat wave<\/strong>. Starting Sunday<\/strong> and continuing into next Wednesday<\/strong>, much of central Pennsylvania<\/strong> will experience daytime highs in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit (33\u201335 \u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Heat index values, which combine temperature and humidity<\/strong>, could surpass 100 \u00b0F (38 \u00b0C)<\/strong> in some areas, with localized peaks<\/strong> approaching 105 \u00b0F (41 \u00b0C)<\/strong>.
