Red alert for Monday and Tuesday in New York<\/strong><\/p>\n

A massive heatwave<\/strong> is set to scorch New York City<\/strong> early next week, with extraordinary temperatures<\/strong> that could rewrite the city’s weather history. Forecast models show a high of 100\u00b0F (37.7\u00b0C)<\/strong> on Monday, June 23<\/strong>, and a peak of 102\u00b0F (38.8\u00b0C)<\/strong> on Tuesday, June 24<\/strong>, potentially breaking 137-year-old records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to Fox Weather meteorologist Stephanie Van Oppen<\/strong>, it won\u2019t just be the heat\u2014extremely high humidity<\/strong> will make conditions feel even more oppressive. The dew point<\/strong> could rise into the 70s\u00b0F (21\u00b0C+)<\/strong>, creating a heavy, sticky atmosphere<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s the kind of air that feels like you\u2019re walking through a swimming pool<\/strong>,\u201d Van Oppen said. \u201cIt clings to you, it\u2019s very sweaty<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Central Park<\/strong> may experience new record highs<\/strong> for both days, topping the 96\u00b0F (35.5\u00b0C)<\/strong> set on June 23 and 24 of 1888<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Feels-like temperatures could exceed 105\u00b0F (40.5\u00b0C)<\/strong><\/p>\n

These conditions could push heat index values<\/strong> \u2014 which combine temperature and humidity \u2014 up to 105\u00b0F (40.5\u00b0C)<\/strong>, creating dangerous conditions<\/strong> for vulnerable groups like older adults<\/strong>, those with health conditions, and anyone spending extended time outdoors.<\/p>\n

Heat could affect primary election turnout<\/strong><\/p>\n

The extreme heat may also impact voter turnout<\/strong> during Tuesday\u2019s Democratic mayoral primary<\/strong>, especially among voters over 50<\/strong>, many of whom support former Governor Andrew Cuomo<\/strong>. A recent New York\u2013Siena College<\/strong> poll showed Cuomo leading with 42%<\/strong> of first-choice votes in that demographic.<\/p>\n

Weekend warming up toward the peak<\/strong><\/p>\n

The weekend will serve as a warm-up<\/strong> to next week\u2019s extreme heat. Saturday<\/strong> will see partly sunny skies<\/strong> with highs around 88\u00b0F (31.1\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while Sunday<\/strong> is expected to reach 97\u00b0F (36.1\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
