This level of <strong>heat and humidity<\/strong> is not just uncomfortable \u2014 it is <strong>dangerous<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The hottest stretch in New Jersey since 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This marks <strong>New Jersey\u2019s most intense stretch of heat since July 2022<\/strong>, when <strong>Newark Liberty International Airport<\/strong> recorded <strong>five straight days<\/strong> of <strong>triple-digit highs<\/strong>. Meanwhile, <strong>Philadelphia International Airport<\/strong>, a key regional station, has <strong>not touched 100\u00b0F<\/strong> since <strong>July 18, 2012<\/strong> \u2014 a streak that could now be broken.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What qualifies as a heat wave \u2014 and why this one matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <strong>heat wave<\/strong>, by standard meteorological definitions, is <strong>three or more consecutive days<\/strong> with highs reaching <strong>90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong> or higher. But in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>, even <strong>a single weather station<\/strong> consistently recording those temperatures is enough to declare a <strong>&#8220;Jersey heat wave&#8221;<\/strong>. When this heat is paired with <strong>high dew points and stifling humidity<\/strong>, it becomes even more <strong>oppressive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>heat index<\/strong>, also referred to as the <strong>apparent temperature<\/strong>, is a more accurate representation of how this combination affects the human body.
