This oppressive spell of extreme temperatures<\/strong> is expected to break weather records dating back 125 years<\/strong>, placing millions of New Yorkers under significant heat-related stress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Over the weekend<\/strong>, violent thunderstorms<\/strong> and flash floods<\/strong> ravaged upstate New York<\/strong>, with deadly consequences. On Saturday night<\/strong>, powerful winds and torrential rain devastated areas of Oneida County<\/strong>, tragically killing three people<\/strong>, including twin girls<\/strong>, according to the Oneida County Sheriff\u2019s Department<\/strong>. Trees were uprooted and homes crushed as emergency crews worked through the wreckage.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Searing temperatures and stifling humidity<\/strong><\/p>\n Forecasters<\/strong> predict that Monday’s high<\/strong> in New York City<\/strong> will soar near 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>, and by Tuesday<\/strong>, thermometers could spike to a dangerous 102\u00b0F (39\u00b0C)<\/strong>. These levels would obliterate previous records<\/strong> set back in 1888<\/strong>, when Central Park<\/strong> recorded a high of 96\u00b0F (36\u00b0C)<\/strong>. The humidity<\/strong> will significantly increase the heat index<\/strong>, making conditions even more perilous for vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n Flash flood concerns<\/strong> remain critical for central New York<\/strong>, with rainfall continuing to hammer the Southern Tier<\/strong> and North Country<\/strong>. The state government<\/strong> warns that flash flooding<\/strong> could spill into the Mid-Hudson<\/strong> region, compounding an already hazardous situation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Power outages and widespread damage<\/strong><\/p>\n Nearly 50,000 New Yorkers<\/strong> lost electricity over the weekend, mostly concentrated in Oneida County<\/strong>, where more than 35,000 residents<\/strong> were left in the dark, as reported by the National Grid outage tracker<\/strong>.
