Severe thunderstorms<\/strong> with damaging wind gusts<\/strong> are impacting parts of Herkimer<\/strong> and Montgomery counties<\/strong> early this Sunday morning<\/strong>, bringing intense rain and a serious risk of property damage.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n At 4:11 a.m. local time<\/strong>, the National Weather Service<\/strong> updated its severe thunderstorm warning<\/strong>, keeping it in effect until 4:30 a.m.<\/strong> for the affected counties in central New York State<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to meteorologists, thunderstorms were observed at 4:10 a.m.<\/strong> forming a line of severe activity<\/strong> stretching from near St. Johnsville<\/strong> to near Clayville<\/strong>, pushing south at about 35 mph<\/strong>. The storms are producing wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph (97 km\/h)<\/strong>, which are strong enough to damage roofs, rip off siding, and snap trees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Areas at risk<\/strong> include the communities of Ilion<\/strong>, Herkimer<\/strong>, Little Falls<\/strong>, Mohawk<\/strong>, Frankfort<\/strong>, West Winfield<\/strong>, Jordanville<\/strong>, Cedarville<\/strong>, Elizabethtown<\/strong>, Warren<\/strong>, Ingham Mills<\/strong>, Jerusalem Hill<\/strong>, Spinnerville<\/strong>, Corrado Corners<\/strong>, Cedar Lake<\/strong>, North Ilion<\/strong>, Gulph<\/strong>, South Columbia<\/strong>, South Ilion<\/strong>, and Davys Corners<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Heavy downpours<\/strong> are accompanying these storms, significantly increasing the threat of flash flooding<\/strong>, particularly in low-lying areas<\/strong> and regions with poor drainage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Meteorologists strongly urge residents to shelter indoors<\/strong> in a secure interior room<\/strong> on the lowest level<\/strong> of their home or building.
