PHOENIX<\/strong> \u2014 A notable shift in the weather pattern<\/strong> is bringing rising temperatures<\/strong> and the first hints of monsoon storm activity<\/strong> to Arizona<\/strong> this week, setting the tone for a hot end to June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In the Phoenix Valley<\/strong>, early morning temperatures<\/strong> are starting out in the mid 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit<\/strong> (around 24\u201328\u00b0C<\/strong>), quickly climbing to an expected high of 103\u00b0F<\/strong> (39\u00b0C<\/strong>) this afternoon. That\u2019s just below the seasonal average<\/strong> for this time of year in Phoenix<\/strong>, with clear skies<\/strong> and light winds<\/strong> adding to the dry desert heat.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In northern Arizona’s high country<\/strong>, winds remain brisk<\/strong>, with another breezy day<\/strong> on tap. A trough of low pressure<\/strong> continues to sweep across the Western U.S.<\/strong>, delivering cooler-than-average temperatures<\/strong> to much of Arizona<\/strong> through the first half of the week, especially in elevated mountain towns<\/strong>. While conditions will stay mostly dry and sunny<\/strong>, southern<\/strong> and southeastern Arizona<\/strong> may begin to feel the effects of early monsoon storms<\/strong>, particularly during the afternoons and evenings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By the latter half of the week<\/strong>, a strong ridge of high pressure<\/strong> begins to develop across the region. This will not only drive temperatures sharply upward<\/strong>, but also begin to pull monsoon moisture<\/strong> farther north. Mountain communities<\/strong>, particularly those along the Mogollon Rim<\/strong> and into northeast Arizona<\/strong>, may start to see scattered thunderstorm chances<\/strong> as early as Friday<\/strong>, continuing into the weekend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Although the Valley<\/strong> is expected to stay dry<\/strong> through the workweek, the forecast grows more uncertain next week<\/strong>, with increasing potential for storm activity<\/strong> as monsoon conditions<\/strong> strengthen across more of the state.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As the high pressure system intensifies<\/strong>, temperatures in Phoenix<\/strong> will trend hotter. Expect highs near 104 to 105\u00b0F<\/strong> (40\u201341\u00b0C<\/strong>) by Tuesday and Wednesday<\/strong>, climbing to 108 or 109\u00b0F<\/strong> (42\u201343\u00b0C<\/strong>) on Thursday and Friday<\/strong>.
