With <strong>heat dome<\/strong> conditions recently pushing temperatures as high as <strong>113\u00b0F (45\u00b0C)<\/strong> in <strong>border cities<\/strong>, the hope for relief is very real \u2014 and, if the <strong>Farmers&#8217; Almanac<\/strong> is to be believed, that shift may come gradually with the arrival of <strong>fall 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>What the Farmers&#8217; Almanac says about fall in Texas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>Farmers&#8217; Almanac<\/strong>, which has been offering long-range weather predictions since <strong>1818<\/strong>, describes the upcoming season as a &#8220;<strong>Flirty, Flurry Fall<\/strong>.&#8221; According to their extended outlook, <strong>Texas<\/strong> \u2014 part of the <strong>South Central<\/strong> region \u2014 is expected to experience a <strong>&#8220;fair, dry start&#8221;<\/strong> to the season, which will gradually transition to a <strong>&#8220;wetter finish&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Their 200-year-old forecasting method, based on <strong>astronomical and mathematical patterns<\/strong>, predicts that <strong>early fall<\/strong> will bring <strong>clearer skies<\/strong> and <strong>mild temperatures<\/strong>, with <strong>increasing precipitation<\/strong> as the season progresses. This pattern applies to a wide area, including <strong>Oklahoma<\/strong>, <strong>New Mexico<\/strong>, <strong>Arkansas<\/strong>, and <strong>Louisiana<\/strong>, in addition to <strong>Texas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While <strong>northern states<\/strong> may begin to feel a <strong>distinct chill<\/strong> as early as <strong>late October<\/strong>, much of the <strong>Southeast<\/strong> and <strong>Southwest<\/strong>, including <strong>Texas<\/strong>, will continue to feel <strong>warmer-than-average temperatures<\/strong>, though not without <strong>occasional storms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>When does it usually cool down in Texas?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Historically, most of <strong>Texas<\/strong> begins to experience a break from <strong>triple-digit heat<\/strong> during the <strong>month of October<\/strong>. On average, cities start to dip below <strong>100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> by <strong>late August<\/strong>, though the <strong>last 100-degree day<\/strong> can vary significantly from year to year.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Austin<\/strong>, for example, the <strong>latest 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> day was <strong>October 13, 2024<\/strong>, while the <strong>average final<\/strong> occurrence is around <strong>August 24<\/strong>. Other key cities show similar trends:<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Dallas-Fort Worth<\/strong>, the last <strong>triple-digit day<\/strong> has historically ranged from <strong>July 13 to October 3<\/strong>, with an <strong>average<\/strong> of <strong>August 29<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Houston<\/strong> usually sees its final <strong>100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> day around <strong>August 15<\/strong>, though in 2005, it lasted as late as <strong>September 27<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Antonio<\/strong> cools slightly later, with an average final <strong>scorching day<\/strong> of <strong>August 26<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lubbock<\/strong>, located in the <strong>Texas Panhandle<\/strong>, tends to cool down faster, with an average last <strong>100-degree<\/strong> reading around <strong>August 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the state, <strong>El Paso<\/strong> usually ends its hottest stretch by <strong>August 11<\/strong>, though last year\u2019s warmth stretched until <strong>September 27<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>What about Halloween weather this year?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re already dreaming of pumpkins and costumes, the <strong>Farmers&#8217; Almanac<\/strong> offers a specific note for <strong>October 28\u201331<\/strong>: expect <strong>wet conditions followed by clearing skies<\/strong>.
