Confirmed by <strong>NASA<\/strong> as a <strong>meteor<\/strong>, the celestial object entered <strong>Earth\u2019s atmosphere<\/strong> at <strong>30,000 miles per hour<\/strong>, unleashing an explosive force equivalent to <strong>20 tons of TNT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>meteor<\/strong>, measuring about <strong>3 feet in diameter<\/strong> and weighing over <strong>a ton<\/strong>, was first observed <strong>48 miles above Oxford<\/strong>, then disintegrated at an altitude of <strong>27 miles above West Forest<\/strong>, <strong>Georgia<\/strong>. The <strong>Henry County Emergency Management Agency<\/strong> is investigating after a <strong>rock-like object<\/strong> reportedly crashed through a home\u2019s <strong>roof and ceiling<\/strong>, damaging <strong>laminate flooring<\/strong> before coming to rest. The <strong>EMA<\/strong> director confirmed <strong>\u201cunusual damage\u201d<\/strong> but could not yet verify whether the object is of <strong>extraterrestrial origin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby <strong>doorbell cameras<\/strong> captured the <strong>fireball streaking across the daylight sky<\/strong>, while radar imagery indicates <strong>possible debris<\/strong> fell near <strong>Blacksville<\/strong>, close to a <strong>Home Depot distribution center along Highway 20<\/strong>. <strong>No injuries<\/strong> have been reported.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Wider impact across the Southeast, search for fragments continues<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Officials in <strong>Anderson County<\/strong>, <strong>Spartanburg County<\/strong>, and <strong>Greenville County<\/strong>, <strong>South Carolina<\/strong>, are also investigating <strong>suspected meteorite debris sites<\/strong>. The <strong>National Weather Service in Charleston<\/strong> confirmed that <strong>GLM instruments<\/strong> detected the streak over the <strong>North Carolina-Virginia border<\/strong>, adding further evidence to the fireball\u2019s wide trajectory.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Witness accounts describe \u2018flaming white ball\u2019 from the sky<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Witness <strong>Michelle Hartley<\/strong> from <strong>Calhoun<\/strong>, <strong>Georgia<\/strong>, vividly described seeing a <strong>bright white object<\/strong> \u201c<strong>like it was on fire<\/strong>\u201d descending through the sky. \u201c<strong>It was crazy. I keep replaying it in my head,<\/strong>\u201d she said. <strong>Doorbell camera footage<\/strong>, taken from several locations, shows a <strong>blazing fireball<\/strong> clearly visible in broad daylight.<\/p>\n<p>Local meteorologist and astrophysicist <strong>Alissa Bans<\/strong>, director of the <strong>Emory University Observatory<\/strong>, said the object was most likely a <strong>bolide<\/strong>, a term for an <strong>exceptionally bright meteor<\/strong> that can explode in the atmosphere.
