Scorching temperatures returning to Phoenix area<\/strong><\/p>\n PHOENIX, Arizona (Thursday, June 27, 2025 \u2013 9:00 a.m. ET)<\/strong> \u2014 A powerful ridge of high pressure<\/strong> is making its way into the Desert Southwest<\/strong>, sending temperatures soaring<\/strong> across much of Arizona<\/strong>. The rise in heat will be especially intense across metro Phoenix<\/strong>, where First Alert Weather Days<\/strong> have already been issued from Sunday through Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n By the end of the weekend, highs are forecast to reach between 110\u00b0F and 115\u00b0F (43\u00b0C\u201346\u00b0C)<\/strong>. The National Weather Service<\/strong> has placed an extreme heat watch<\/strong> over the Valley<\/strong> and much of southern Maricopa County<\/strong>, highlighting the elevated danger during this stretch. Pinal County<\/strong> and Pima County<\/strong>, south of Phoenix, will also fall under heat watches<\/strong>, specifically for Monday<\/strong>, which is currently expected to be the peak of this early summer heat wave<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Monsoon signs emerging ahead of the holiday<\/strong><\/p>\n Despite the oppressive heat, there is growing anticipation<\/strong> around the potential arrival of the monsoon season<\/strong>, which may begin as early as the Fourth of July<\/strong>. A developing tropical storm system<\/strong> in the region could act as a catalyst, pushing monsoonal moisture<\/strong> toward Northern<\/strong> and Southeastern Arizona<\/strong>, where the initial thunderstorms<\/strong> are most likely to develop.<\/p>\n For metro Phoenix<\/strong>, there’s a tentative 20% chance of rainfall<\/strong> around Wednesday, July 3<\/strong>, and Thursday, July 4<\/strong>. However, those projections might be slightly optimistic<\/strong>, as atmospheric models remain uncertain<\/strong> this far out.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Air quality issues persist<\/strong><\/p>\n In addition to the heat, an ozone alert<\/strong> remains in effect today and Friday<\/strong>. Ozone levels<\/strong> are forecast to climb into the unhealthful range<\/strong>, particularly impacting children<\/strong>, older adults<\/strong>, and individuals with respiratory conditions<\/strong>.
