Strong storms and potential travel disruptions expected on July 4<\/strong><\/p>\n More than 72 million people<\/strong> are expected to travel across the United States<\/strong> during Independence Day week<\/strong>, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA)<\/strong>. This year\u2019s holiday, falling on a Friday<\/strong>, opens the door to an extended weekend, fueling the busiest July 4<\/strong> travel period on record.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Out of the total, 60.6 million travelers<\/strong> will take to the roads, while 5.7 million<\/strong> will fly and nearly 4 million<\/strong> will rely on buses, trains, or other transportation. But as this massive movement unfolds, weather forecasts<\/strong> warn of potentially severe storms<\/strong> and heavy rainfall<\/strong> that could impact major highways and disrupt air travel.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n FOX Weather\u2019s Forecast Center<\/strong> reports that a cold front<\/strong> is expected to move from the Northern Plains<\/strong> toward the Southeast<\/strong> between Tuesday, July 2<\/strong>, and Thursday, July 4<\/strong>. As this system interacts with hot, humid air<\/strong> in the Southeast<\/strong>, it may trigger intense rain<\/strong>, thunderstorms<\/strong>, and even conditions that could give rise to a tropical system<\/strong> along the Atlantic Coast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The affected region stretches from Louisiana<\/strong> to North Carolina<\/strong>, where persistent rain<\/strong> is expected through Thursday<\/strong> and the following weekend. So far, no major cyclones have formed.<\/p>\n Even if a storm doesn’t fully develop, the increased atmospheric moisture<\/strong> could still bring heavier rainfall<\/strong> throughout the Southeast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Afternoon flight delays possible across major airports on July 2 and 4<\/strong><\/p>\n FOX Weather<\/strong> highlights that afternoon storms<\/strong> on Tuesday<\/strong> could coincide with peak air traffic hours<\/strong>, especially for flights between the East Coast<\/strong> and Southeast<\/strong>. This may cause departure and arrival delays<\/strong>, as well as rerouted connections<\/strong> at airports like Charlotte<\/strong>, Raleigh-Durham<\/strong>, and Miami<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In contrast, areas west of the Rocky Mountains<\/strong>, including California<\/strong>, Nevada<\/strong>, Utah<\/strong>, and Arizona<\/strong>, will see dry conditions<\/strong> through the holiday.
