While light haze will already be visible by morning, the <strong>bulk of the dust cloud<\/strong> is expected to sweep across the region by <strong>late Sunday night into early Monday<\/strong>, leaving a noticeable mark on <strong>sky visibility, air quality, and health<\/strong> through <strong>Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Hazy skies from San Antonio to Austin by Sunday morning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As of <strong>Sunday morning<\/strong>, residents along the <strong>Texas Gulf Coast<\/strong> and across cities like <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> and <strong>Austin<\/strong> should expect <strong>slightly hazy skies<\/strong>. <strong>Early temperatures<\/strong> will be <strong>comfortable<\/strong>, holding steady in the <strong>mid to upper 70s\u00b0F<\/strong> (<strong>24\u201326\u00b0C<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>By midday<\/strong>, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> will warm up quickly, hitting <strong>90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong> around <strong>1 p.m.<\/strong>, and peaking at <strong>93\u00b0F (34\u00b0C)<\/strong> in the late afternoon. Thanks to high <strong>humidity levels<\/strong>, the <strong>heat index<\/strong> will hover near <strong>100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>, increasing the perception of heat.<\/p>\n<p>Some <strong>isolated showers and weak thunderstorms<\/strong> may develop by the afternoon, but <strong>rain coverage<\/strong> will be sparse, with <strong>only a 20% chance<\/strong> of precipitation. That means <strong>most of the region will stay dry<\/strong> through the evening hours.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Dust surge intensifies overnight across East Texas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The real impact of the <strong>Saharan dust plume<\/strong> will unfold after sunset. Unlike the <strong>dramatic wall-like haboobs<\/strong> sometimes seen from <strong>Arizona<\/strong> to <strong>West Texas<\/strong>, this event will be <strong>more gradual<\/strong>. You\u2019ll notice the skies <strong>growing hazier overnight and especially by Monday and Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>heaviest concentrations<\/strong> of airborne particles will accumulate over <strong>East Texas<\/strong>, affecting cities like <strong>Houston<\/strong>, <strong>Beaumont<\/strong>, and <strong>Lufkin<\/strong>. Meanwhile, <strong>moderate dust levels<\/strong> will also be felt along the <strong>Interstate 35 corridor<\/strong>, including <strong>New Braunfels<\/strong>, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong>, and <strong>Austin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>dust particles<\/strong>, which have already traveled <strong>over 4,000 miles<\/strong> from the <strong>African continent<\/strong>, contain <strong>microscopic minerals<\/strong> like <strong>silica and quartz<\/strong>. These particles can be <strong>inhaled deeply<\/strong> and may <strong>irritate sensitive respiratory systems<\/strong>. While the general population is unlikely to experience severe issues, people with <strong>asthma<\/strong>, <strong>cardiovascular conditions<\/strong>, or <strong>chronic respiratory illnesses<\/strong>, along with <strong>young children<\/strong> and the <strong>elderly<\/strong>, are <strong>at higher risk<\/strong> for complications due to the <strong>reduced air quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Less dust, same heat by midweek<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>By <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>, concentrations of <strong>Saharan dust<\/strong> will begin to <strong>fade across Texas<\/strong>, with skies slowly <strong>clearing<\/strong>. However, <strong>temperatures will remain elevated<\/strong>, staying consistent through the midweek.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong>Tuesday through Thursday<\/strong>, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> is expected to see <strong>highs between 91\u00b0F and 93\u00b0F (33\u201334\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Overnight lows will remain <strong>mild<\/strong>, staying in the <strong>mid-70s\u00b0F (24\u00b0C)<\/strong>. There may be <strong>a few brief showers or weak storms<\/strong>, but rain chances will remain <strong>very low<\/strong>, between <strong>10 and 20%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to <strong>Friday, July 4<\/strong>, <strong>temperatures will climb again<\/strong>, with <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> forecast to reach the <strong>mid-90s\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Despite <strong>partly cloudy skies<\/strong>, <strong>high humidity<\/strong> will push the <strong>heat index<\/strong> back near or <strong>above 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>.
