He noted that \u201ca cold front will dip into the region by late next week and could act as a catalyst for thunderstorm development, either in the eastern Gulf or just off the Southeast coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forecasters are focusing on this area of interest<\/strong> because it could disrupt weekend plans as <strong>rain and thunderstorms<\/strong> are expected to increase in coverage and intensity by early <strong>July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pattern shift will occur shortly after peak heat hits the southeastern interior, setting the stage for more widespread rain and thunderstorms into early July,\u201d said <strong>Alex Sosnowski<\/strong>, senior meteorologist at <strong>AccuWeather<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parts of the Florida Peninsula<\/strong> are likely to receive <strong>much-needed rainfall<\/strong> in the coming days\u2014though <strong>vacationers in the Sunshine State<\/strong> may not welcome the timing.<\/p>\n<p>So far, only one named storm\u2014<strong>Andrea<\/strong>\u2014has developed in the <strong>Atlantic hurricane basin<\/strong> this season, and it lasted less than 24 hours earlier last week. If the new system strengthens early next month, the next storm name on the list is <strong>Barry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DaSilva added<\/strong> that <strong>wind shear<\/strong>, a factor that usually hinders tropical storm formation, is expected to be <strong>relatively low<\/strong> in the projected area, while <strong>sea surface temperatures in the Gulf<\/strong> remain <strong>above average<\/strong> for this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anything develops, heavy rainfall will likely be the main concern,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Torrential downpours<\/strong> could dump <strong>over an inch of rain<\/strong> in a short time across some parts of the region.
