The system will bring <strong>widespread heavy to torrential rainfall<\/strong> to <strong>northeastern<\/strong>, <strong>eastern<\/strong>, and <strong>southeastern Mexico<\/strong>, particularly affecting <strong>Tamaulipas<\/strong>, <strong>Veracruz<\/strong>, and <strong>Puebla<\/strong>, where <strong>accumulations could reach 6 to 10 inches (150 to 250 mm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Strong winds and high surf along Gulf Coast<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Winds of <strong>30 to 37 mph (50 to 60 km\/h)<\/strong> are expected across coastal <strong>Tamaulipas<\/strong> and <strong>Veracruz<\/strong>, with <strong>gusts reaching 56 mph (90 km\/h)<\/strong>. <strong>Wave heights<\/strong> of <strong>10 to 13 feet (3 to 4 meters)<\/strong> are also forecast, especially near <strong>central and southern Tamaulipas<\/strong> and <strong>central-northern Veracruz<\/strong>, posing <strong>significant coastal hazards<\/strong> including <strong>rip currents<\/strong> and potential <strong>waterspouts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Flossie approaching southern Mexico<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Tropical Depression Six-E<\/strong>, named <strong>Flossie<\/strong> by the <strong>National Hurricane Center (NHC)<\/strong>, is moving <strong>northwest<\/strong> off the <strong>southern coast of Mexico<\/strong>, near <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong> and <strong>Guerrero<\/strong>. Early this morning at <strong>3:00 AM Mexico City time<\/strong>, the center of Flossie was located <strong>270 miles (435 km) south of Acapulco<\/strong> and <strong>239 miles (385 km) south-southwest of Punta Maldonado<\/strong>, with <strong>maximum sustained winds of 28 mph (45 km\/h)<\/strong> and <strong>gusts up to 40 mph (65 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Flossie is expected to <strong>intensify into a tropical storm<\/strong> within the next <strong>24 hours<\/strong> as it tracks <strong>parallel to the Pacific coast<\/strong>, moving close to <strong>Guerrero<\/strong>, <strong>Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, and <strong>Colima<\/strong>. The <strong>closest approach to the Mexican mainland<\/strong> is expected on <strong>Tuesday<\/strong>, near <strong>Jalisco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Heavy rain in south and Pacific coast<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Flossie\u2019s <strong>outer rainbands<\/strong> and associated <strong>tropical moisture<\/strong> will generate <strong>torrential downpours<\/strong> over <strong>Guerrero<\/strong>, <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong>, and <strong>Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, with <strong>localized rainfall totals between 3 to 6 inches (75 to 150 mm)<\/strong>.
