Showers and strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening across much of Metro Detroit<\/em><\/strong>, as warm and humid air surges northward<\/strong> this Monday<\/em>, July 1<\/strong>, setting the stage for severe weather<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A warm front is lifting across Southeast Michigan<\/strong> this morning, bringing humid conditions<\/strong> and scattered downpours<\/strong>. Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s \u00b0F (around 29\u201331 \u00b0C)<\/strong>, but with the heat index<\/strong>, it will feel more like the 90s \u00b0F (32\u201335 \u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.<\/strong>, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop<\/strong> as a cold front approaches<\/strong> from the west. While not every storm will be severe<\/strong>, the risk for damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph (about 96 km\/h)<\/strong> and localized flash flooding<\/strong> is significant in some spots, especially where heavier cells train over the same areas<\/strong>. The Storm Prediction Center<\/strong> has placed all of Southeast Michigan<\/strong>, including Detroit<\/strong>, Ann Arbor<\/strong>, Pontiac<\/strong>, and Sterling Heights<\/strong>, under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk<\/strong> for severe storms.<\/p>\n Starting Tuesday<\/strong>, conditions settle into a more typical early July pattern<\/strong>. Expect mostly sunny skies<\/strong> and highs in the 80s \u00b0F (27\u201330 \u00b0C)<\/strong> through the rest of the workweek, with less humidity<\/strong> compared to today.<\/p>\n Thursday, July 4<\/strong>, is currently looking mostly sunny to partly cloudy<\/strong>, with highs in the mid to upper 80s \u00b0F (29\u201331 \u00b0C)<\/strong> \u2014 ideal conditions for fireworks and outdoor celebrations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n By Saturday<\/strong>, the heat builds<\/strong>, pushing temperatures into the low 90s \u00b0F (33\u201334 \u00b0C)<\/strong>, and humidity returns<\/strong>, increasing the chance for late-day showers<\/strong>.
