That place exists \u2014 it\u2019s called Florida<\/strong>, in the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Florida<\/strong>, best known for its tropical beaches<\/strong> and theme parks<\/strong>, is a favorite vacation destination<\/strong> for millions. The state offers an endless variety of restaurants<\/strong>, entertainment<\/strong>, sports games<\/strong> like baseball<\/strong> and soccer<\/strong>, and outdoor concerts<\/strong>. But storms in Florida’s skies can form suddenly<\/strong>, forcing organizers to delay or cancel<\/strong> large events within minutes.<\/p>\n First, it\u2019s important to understand that Florida<\/strong> has a subtropical climate<\/strong>. This means there are no sharply defined seasons<\/strong> like in other parts of the U.S.<\/strong> \u2014 instead, warm temperatures<\/strong> and high humidity<\/strong> persist throughout the year.<\/p>\n That\u2019s largely due to its geographic location<\/strong>. Florida is surrounded by both the Atlantic Ocean<\/strong> and the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>, which, according to the NOAA<\/strong>, creates ideal conditions \u2014 heat and moisture<\/strong> \u2014 for frequent thunderstorm development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n According to the official tourism site Visit Florida<\/strong>, locals say the state only has two seasons<\/strong>: a wet season<\/strong>, from late May through late October<\/strong>, and a dry season<\/strong>, from November through April<\/strong>.<\/p>\n During the wet season<\/strong>, about 68% of the annual rainfall<\/strong> occurs. \u201cRain and thunderstorms are frequent, if not daily, and humidity levels<\/strong> peak during these months.\u201d<\/p>\n In fact, according to Florida\u2019s state authorities, thunderstorms occur between 75 and 105 days a year<\/strong> and can bring lightning<\/strong>, tornadoes<\/strong>, hail<\/strong>, strong winds<\/strong>, and torrential rain<\/strong> capable of causing flash floods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Delays<\/strong> or cancellations<\/strong> of sports events in Florida<\/strong> are common, especially in cities like Miami<\/strong>, Tampa<\/strong>, and Orlando<\/strong>, where storms<\/strong> are more frequent during the wet season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n That’s why there’s a weather safety protocol<\/strong> established by the National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong> and the National Football League (NFL)<\/strong> in case a storm<\/strong> threatens during a game.<\/p>\n The protocol states that matches must be immediately paused<\/strong> if lightning<\/strong> is detected within an 8-mile (13-kilometer) radius<\/strong>. Once the alert is issued, a 30-minute delay<\/strong> is enforced while players<\/strong>, coaches<\/strong>, and fans<\/strong> move to covered areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n If lightning continues or a storm begins, the game is permanently suspended<\/strong> and must be rescheduled<\/strong>.
