TOMS RIVER, New Jersey<\/strong> \u2014 Severe thunderstorms<\/strong> that swept through Ocean County<\/strong> on Tuesday evening<\/strong>, July 1<\/strong>, brought torrential rain<\/strong> to Toms River<\/strong>, flooding multiple roads and forcing at least one water rescue<\/strong> on Route 37<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In a dramatic video<\/strong> posted by the Toms River Volunteer Fire Company 1<\/strong>, a firefighter is seen carrying a woman<\/strong> to safety after her car was stranded in floodwaters<\/strong> at the jughandle on Route 37<\/strong>, just west of Hooper Avenue<\/strong>, near Dunkin’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Between 9 a.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday<\/strong>, the National Weather Service<\/strong> reported over 3 inches of rain<\/strong> falling in the area\u2014more than 3.00 inches (76.2 mm)<\/strong> of intense rainfall that overwhelmed local drainage systems.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office<\/strong> issued multiple flash flood warnings<\/strong>, urging residents to avoid driving<\/strong> and confirming the closures of Irons Street<\/strong> and Herflicker Boulevard<\/strong> due to high water levels.
