SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 8:00 a.m. local time)<\/strong> \u2014 After forming as the first tropical storm of the year in the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>, Barry<\/strong> made landfall in eastern Mexico<\/strong> late Sunday night<\/strong>, quickly weakening into a tropical depression<\/strong>. Despite its deterioration, the lingering tropical moisture<\/strong> has drifted into South Texas<\/strong>, bringing increased cloud cover<\/strong> and scattered rainfall<\/strong>, especially to western areas of the state<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Though the system no longer resembles a tropical storm, residual humidity<\/strong> is expected to generate isolated showers<\/strong> throughout the region during the day. Here’s what the forecast looks like.<\/p>\n

Wednesday weather outlook: mild temps, limited rain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Morning conditions<\/strong> will begin similarly to recent days, with temperatures in the mid-70s \u00b0F (24 \u00b0C)<\/strong> under mostly cloudy skies<\/strong>. Rain chances remain low during the morning<\/strong>, but persistent cloud cover<\/strong> will keep temperatures from climbing quickly. By around 10 a.m.<\/strong>, San Antonio<\/strong> is expected to reach 80 \u00b0F (27 \u00b0C)<\/strong> and gradually rise to the mid-80s \u00b0F (29 \u00b0C)<\/strong> by midday.<\/p>\n

Afternoon highs<\/strong> will remain below the seasonal norm<\/strong>, likely topping out in the upper 80s \u00b0F (31 \u00b0C)<\/strong> by 4 p.m.<\/strong>\u2014several degrees under the average July 2 high of 94 \u00b0F (34 \u00b0C)<\/strong> for San Antonio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As tropical moisture pushes north from Mexico<\/strong>, scattered thunderstorms<\/strong> and showers<\/strong> are forecast to develop between 1 and 7 p.m.<\/strong>, mainly over Bexar County<\/strong> and surrounding areas. However, overall rain coverage<\/strong> will be limited to about 30%<\/strong>, so most neighborhoods<\/strong> will likely stay dry.<\/p>\n

Where rain does fall, totals will be light<\/strong>, generally under 0.1 inch<\/strong>, though isolated pockets<\/strong> could see up to 0.25 inch<\/strong>, especially closer to the Rio Grande<\/strong>, from Laredo<\/strong> to Del Rio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thursday outlook: drying trend begins<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rain chances on Thursday<\/strong> will decrease slightly<\/strong>, with only 20% or less<\/strong> of the region expected to see brief, isolated showers<\/strong>. Skies should stay partly to mostly cloudy<\/strong>, and highs will near 90 \u00b0F (32 \u00b0C)<\/strong> across South Texas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fourth of July: sunshine and seasonal warmth<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Independence Day celebrations<\/strong> across South Texas<\/strong>, the weather will be ideal<\/strong>. Rain chances drop to near zero<\/strong>, and daytime highs<\/strong> will remain slightly below average<\/strong>, climbing into the low 90s \u00b0F (33 \u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite comfortable temperatures, humidity<\/strong> will remain elevated<\/strong>, pushing heat index values<\/strong> close to 100 \u00b0F (38 \u00b0C)<\/strong> in the afternoon and early evening. As the fireworks begin<\/strong>, expect temperatures to dip into the mid-80s \u00b0F (29 \u00b0C)<\/strong>, cooling to the low 80s \u00b0F (27 \u00b0C)<\/strong> by 10 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Warming trend this weekend and beyond<\/strong><\/p>\n

A ridge of high pressure<\/strong> will begin building by the weekend<\/strong>, leading to a noticeable warm-up<\/strong>. On Saturday<\/strong> and Sunday<\/strong>, San Antonio<\/strong> is forecast to see daytime highs in the mid-90s \u00b0F (35 \u00b0C)<\/strong>, while overnight lows<\/strong> stay in the mid-70s \u00b0F (24 \u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By Monday and Tuesday<\/strong>, the heat intensifies<\/strong>, with highs reaching 95 to 97 \u00b0F (35\u201336 \u00b0C)<\/strong> and possibly climbing to 98 \u00b0F (37 \u00b0C)<\/strong> by next Wednesday<\/strong>.
