After initially entering through the <strong>southern regions<\/strong>, the icy air mass surged through <strong>Patagonia<\/strong>, and is now entrenched across the <strong>central provinces<\/strong>, moving slowly northward. Although the worst of the chill hit during the <strong>weekend<\/strong> and the <strong>early part of the week<\/strong>, the lingering cold remains a concern.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <strong>National Meteorological Service (SMN)<\/strong>, <strong>Buenos Aires City<\/strong> will remain under <strong>orange alert<\/strong> for <strong>the rest of the week<\/strong>. This level of warning implies a <strong>moderate to high health risk<\/strong>, particularly affecting <strong>vulnerable groups<\/strong> such as children, the elderly, and those without adequate shelter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cloudy skies over Buenos Aires, no rain expected<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Thursday<\/strong>, the day is expected to start with a <strong>frigid low near 37\u00b0F (3\u00b0C)<\/strong> in the <strong>early morning<\/strong>, before gradually warming up to a <strong>high of 54\u00b0F (12\u00b0C)<\/strong> by the <strong>afternoon<\/strong>, maintaining that temperature until the <strong>evening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Morning skies will be <strong>mostly clear<\/strong>, but <strong>cloud cover<\/strong> will steadily increase. By the <strong>afternoon<\/strong>, conditions will become <strong>partly cloudy<\/strong>, and by <strong>nightfall<\/strong>, skies are forecast to be <strong>fully overcast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday<\/strong> is expected to bring <strong>similar weather<\/strong>, closing out the week with a <strong>high of 54\u00b0F (12\u00b0C)<\/strong> and a <strong>morning low around 41\u00b0F (5\u00b0C)<\/strong>\u2014a slight increase from Thursday\u2019s minimum. Despite the <strong>absence of rain<\/strong>, skies will remain <strong>cloudy all day<\/strong>, with <strong>limited sunlight<\/strong> throughout.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greater Buenos Aires also under orange alert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>orange warning<\/strong> extends beyond the capital. In the <strong>southern part of Buenos Aires Province<\/strong>, places like <strong>La Plata<\/strong>, <strong>Chascom\u00fas<\/strong>, and <strong>Dolores<\/strong> are facing the same health advisory. In the <strong>northern areas<\/strong>, including <strong>San Isidro<\/strong>, <strong>Tigre<\/strong>, <strong>Escobar<\/strong>, and <strong>Pilar<\/strong>, the alert remains active.<\/p>\n<p>Moving west, <strong>La Matanza<\/strong>, <strong>Mor\u00f3n<\/strong>, <strong>Merlo<\/strong>, <strong>Moreno<\/strong>, and even <strong>Ca\u00f1uelas<\/strong> are also under <strong>orange alert<\/strong>. Further outside the metro region, towns like <strong>Las Flores<\/strong>, <strong>Azul<\/strong>, and <strong>Olavarr\u00eda<\/strong> are listed under a <strong>code yellow alert<\/strong>, indicating slightly <strong>less severe risk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some districts, such as <strong>Chivilcoy<\/strong>, <strong>25 de Mayo<\/strong>, and <strong>9 de Julio<\/strong>, are now under <strong>red alert<\/strong>\u2014the highest level\u2014for <strong>extreme cold<\/strong>, as is <strong>Tandil<\/strong>, the only area in the province under such an intense advisory.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wider national impact: cold reaches Mendoza, San Juan, and the northeast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beyond <strong>Buenos Aires<\/strong>, the <strong>orange alert<\/strong> is in effect across a wide swath of the country, including <strong>Mendoza<\/strong>, <strong>San Juan<\/strong>, <strong>La Rioja<\/strong>, <strong>Corrientes<\/strong>, <strong>Entre R\u00edos<\/strong>, <strong>Misiones<\/strong>, <strong>Santa Fe<\/strong>, and <strong>Formosa<\/strong>. A <strong>yellow alert<\/strong> has been issued for <strong>Salta<\/strong>, <strong>Chaco<\/strong>, <strong>Santiago del Estero<\/strong>, and parts of <strong>Formosa<\/strong>, where the <strong>cold is less severe but still notable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frozen shorelines in Quilmes: rare sight on the R\u00edo de la Plata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The deep freeze has also impacted <strong>Quilmes<\/strong>, on the <strong>southern outskirts of Buenos Aires<\/strong>, where a <strong>thin layer of ice<\/strong> was spotted forming along the banks of the <strong>R\u00edo de la Plata<\/strong>. The frozen shoreline, filmed and shared by <strong>Instagram user @decastrokevin<\/strong>, shows ice collecting in a <strong>low-lying, stagnant area<\/strong> near <strong>La Ribera<\/strong>. The runner commented, \u201c<strong>I had to touch it to believe it<\/strong>,\u201d after observing the frozen surface.<\/p>\n<p>Although the <strong>entire river<\/strong> hasn\u2019t frozen due to its <strong>salinity and water flow<\/strong>, the <strong>intense cold<\/strong> combined with <strong>stagnant coastal water<\/strong> created ideal conditions for <strong>ice formation<\/strong>\u2014a rare event in this region.<\/p>\n<p>The video quickly made the rounds on <strong>social media<\/strong>, sparking a mix of <strong>awe and concern<\/strong>.
